What kind of grass are you trying to grow? If it is zoysia or fescue then you can kill bermuda off in a zoysia or fescue lawn. The issue is it can be very expensive and 3+ treatments a year. Also, the herbicides mixed to do this, I am not sure if they are approved for residential lawns yet. The link might be a good read if you are going for one of the above lawns. I find with quack the best defense is a good offense. Take good care of your lawn and it will get choked out. But notwithstanding... when I first sodded my yard I had some spots of quackgrass that came from the nursery. I was told to mow my grass very short in the spot with quack. The quack rows faster / higher than the lawn, so using a string soaked in non-selective roundup carefully run the string over the longer quack. This avoids killing the rest of your lawn.

Hostared...Thanks for the ID. I looked up Lysimachia Ciliata and it is the purple leaf variety - the invasive Loosestrife. The nice thing is that it blooms for a long time, but is definitely invasive. The second one is definitely a weed and it was there last year, but I had pulled them all and thought they were "history." I was wrong and now they have taken over alot of space in one garden. There is no scent to the leaves. Guess it's time to get out and dig. Thanks for ID's. Duluthinbloom - I checked on White Campion, and the flowers are too tiny on my plant/weeds.

We call the second one Apple of Peru. A friend gave me some a number of years ago and even though I try to pull them out I still get a couple every summer. I just cut all the branches off of one I didn't even notice beside my house until it was 3 ft tall and the stem was about 2 " in diameter. I couldn't pull it out by the roots because they were too big and would ruin something else. They grow so fast it is unbelievable. I wish I could get some other things to grow that fast. They are very easy to pull out when smaller though and if you don't let them go to seed you should be able to control them.
