I always bite my tongue when the first solution is “artwork”. This is your family space—what interests your family? Rather than some mass produced swipes of paint on canvas, do you love the beach, the mountains, cities? Do you have photos of special places you have taken and could have enlarged at Walgreens? Is there something you collect, like the basket wall suggestion in an earlier post? Six or eight framed drawings made by your kids and hung in easy to change frames would give you special “artwork”. I love history and my dining room “artwork” is framed maps of the regions from which my ancestors came. Love the idea that you made the table and bench as my husband makes furniture for us and made something similar for one of our nieces. She often sends us pictures of her kids at that table. Your room is very special-find something special to hang on that wall.

To everyone who commented: Thank you!! Lots of ideas and things to consider here. Rearranging the furniture is something I haven't given much thought to. I did what I did because I like my sofa to be close to the tv (well, I'm nearsighted), and coming from a studio apartment, that's how it was previously - everything close together. So it's hard to change. Yes, I should eventually get a new tv stand. The tv is actually safe on the stand, as the tv legs are less wide than the stand itself and the stand is pure wood, so its construction is quite good. It's a relic of the tube tv days, but it worked for the new tv when I bought it a couple of years ago, so I didn't bother changing it. As to the stuff I have all around (especially in the corner) - those are things I want on display. They are model buses from England, many in their own display case. Eventually, I want to get a curio cabinet as I have a much larger collection not yet on display. As for the curtains, I chose that color because it matched the color of the wood floor and the wood furniture. But I may have to re-evaluate that also. I agree about having the curtain rod pulled out on top. However, if you look at the photo of the left side of the window, there's no space to install a curtain rod just to the left top of the window, as the original window frame and the corner of the wall are extremely close. If there's a solution to that, please post!! And thanks for the guide to hanging pictures...I will definitely be taking this info into consideration...I also have my bedroom to work on!! I think a single framed piece of art with some texture and a pop of color would add some great movement and life to the space. It looks like you have some nice natural light coming from the right of the photo so you could always reposition those three mirrors on the other wall above the sectional to reflect that light and really brighten the space! Then maybe find a smaller piece of artwork for the remaining wall. Hope that helps!

Do a floor plan so you know what major pieces you need to buy. Pick a rug and art first, which will guide your color palette. As expensive as furniture is, I would stick with neutral colors in case you wake up one morning and hate green. Paint is the cheapest thing to change. I love the room, it has a wonderful cozy vibe. Do you like the green, or do you have a favorite color scheme, or art or a rug to use as a starting point?
