Update on our build.
Comments (3)Oh PD, I'm so sorry to hear about the troubles. I know that getting the last few details wrapped up is always the hardest part of any project. That really sucks about you're bank though, I mean, you're paying all interest all this time! Maybe you could threaten to refinance with someone else if they don't get it together? And sorry about the well too. We have a golf course that is on our aquaduct and we too were concerned about someday going dry since they use a ton of water. I hope there's lots down there in them rocks! :) I'm sure things will come together soon. Glad you're enjoying the new house! We started moving some stuff into ours this weekend! Comments (9)Gorgeous! You and your daughter make a great team, great taste! What an exciting and fun time. denise54 your home is gorgeous too! Curious as to the picture you have posted. Is it a Mascord design and please don't think I am a dummy, but is that the front or back? I was looking for your front entrance and couldn't tell from that pic. Either way, I love it!! Great job!...See MoreLet's get some updates on builds!!
Comments (53)Oh my gosh everyones houses look so good!!!! I love seeing the pictures! I was so happy today heading out to our places, expecting the electrical to be done and the rock ready to go on the house. GC said on Monday there were heading over to work that night to finish the electrical and the electrician said the insulation was going in today. Guess what I saw?!?! NOTHING! LOL! They never even showed back up to finish the electrical on Monday. I love my GC, he is a great great guy, nice as all can be but now I am truly getting frustrated. The whole month of August the only thing done was the roof and now we are at what....September 12? There is NO way we will be in by Christmas. He told the electrician 3 1/2 months. That is January. *sigh* oh well! It will be worth it but I am going to say something if nothing else happens this week. That is my rant for the day!...See MoreBuilding a Home in Kansas-Kitchen Update
Comments (26)I get wanting storage... I live in a rural area, also. It’s a 20 minute drive to our small-town grocery store, and an hour to a decent one or someplace like Costco. And we are a family of 6. The problem with a corner pantry is that you are losing 10-12” of space, just by adding walls in each side. You also need to account for clearance for a door swing. That angled wall alone takes up roughly 9sf of your kitchen. Do you feel like your kitchen has that to spare? Be honest: how often do you need to access 12 rolls of paper towels at once? Or use more than 2-3 cans of cream-of-something soup? If you’re like most people, the answer is hardly ever. Build yourself a large pantry-storage area somewhere else, and add a few full-height pantry cabinets in your new kitchen. You can store so much in those, especially if you have pullouts/drawers! You can store all of your day-to-day foodstuff there, and have backup stuff in the pantry. If it was me, I’d put the fridge at the end of the counter run, closest to the dining area. I’d slide the cooktop down toward the lower wall. And I’d turn the whole bottom wall into full-height pantry storage. I’d extend the island both directions... looks like you have a solid foot available next to the dishwasher. Once the angled pantry wall is gone, you won’t need a 4.5” aisle, so you could probably even go 18” there... a 36” aisle seems perfectly respectable since it’s not a work area. That gives you almost 9’ of island... plenty of prep space, and probably 5-6’ on the counter behind, between the fridge and range. A 12’ run of wall pantry cabinets will store probably triple what that corner pantry would. It will give you a better workflow, more countertop prep space, and look better to boot....See MoreMark Bischak, Architect
