Nothing or a fabulous piece of art...but probably nothing. If it were my house, there'd be pet dishes on the floor there... Do you need a clock? A good looking kitchen clock would work. We have an antique school house clock on our wall in the kitchen.

This is a lovely room! In a small space continuity is important. Before you add or paint anything else, paint the daybed and both chairs a dark brown, British Colonial as mentioned above. This way you can add the color you want here and there. The table in front of the daybed needs to be higher, like a tea table height. Use the chest on the side. To make the daybed more comfy, add old fashioned wedge pillows across the back and then the big pillows on top. The arch and stucco type seems to speak to a mediterranean or spanish style home. My theory is to not fight with the bones of a house. I would go with a smaller scale spanish-style fixture that fits closer to the ceiling as you do not have much height to play with. I would keep them consistent (not necessarily the same) but if you go with a darker bronze finish keep it consistent. Keep in mind the scale of the room when choosing the fixture. A really small room need a light fixture that is to the scale of the room.

Here’s what I would do. Paint all the walls white. Embrace the black and white in the tile and have the handrail only painted black. Put a carpet runner on the stairs. That would change and update the room drastically.
