Design Dilemma Windows Building a Home

Looking for an Andersen 400 series expert for advice - thanks

Working with a builder on our new home who is a big fan of the Andersen 400 series. After doing some research I’m concerned about the lack of exterior (and interior) trim colors. We would prefer a very light linen color exterior. (Not white NOR yellow).

The builder recommends CANVAS. I’ve checked out a few addresses with Canvas and it just screams yellow. See examples below. Anyone have any advice or experience with Andersen? I know the stone we select and dryvit surround can help diffuse the yellow but any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Andersen is a great window. Do they have any other color options? I really like the sandtone color option it is a browner/gray tone of white.(kind of like the trim color in your last photo) No yellow in that color. I dont think your pics above look yellow but every computer will show different.

Have you contacted Andersen Window Company or someone that sells them. They would be your best source.

When I built my home 23 years ago the contractor would only install Weathershield products. I asked him to switch to Pella but he refused. He stated that the weathershield products were far superior to all other brands. I should have "FIRED" that builder. I allowed him to build my house and use the best wood and exterior clad doors and windows that they had at that time The Weathershield windows and especially the 4 section sliding patio door have been a disaster. We had numerous problems and the factory people and their REPS were a joke. We have lived with our bad decision since our house was built. I can't attest to the quality of their products today but when we bought them 23 years ago it was our biggest mistake.

For a 32x62 the 400 would cost approximately $525, to vinyl wrap the interior would add about $10 and to paint would add about $25. The 100 would be about $425 for white on white. Savings would be about $2600- $3500, weather this cost is minimal would be mostly opinion. The 100 looks cleaner more modern in the inside , the 400 looks cleaner on the outside and less modern. The 100 has 2 layers of weatherstripping vs 1 on the 400 with exception another layer at the head. The hardware is different and hard to compare.The. U-values are about the same and I believe the 100 is tighter in air infiltration. Everything is based upon a visual inspection and pricing at Home Depot. If going with white interior I would seriously consider a nice vinyl window.

Dealing with a similar sutuation. New build with same windows. I was a little surprised when i noticed the exterior mitre joints, as mine are identical. One thing i know for sure is that “damage” you think is from the factory is 100% from the installer. Mine were installed with way more damage. Aside from the major damage, I did have those scuff/scratch type marks all over several of mine as well, the good news is - they literally wipe off with a decent amount of elbow grease. I was happy when I realized it wasnt permanent.

I just had Pella double hung outside dark brown and inside almond hung. Immediately, I noticed the white jam on the outside view so now I have a brick house with cream trim around the window, a dark brown window and grid with a white stripe in between the trim and window. Unbelieveable! Nearly 80K retail (discounted through our contractor) and I’m sick about the exterior look. I really don’t know what recourse I have, but NOT HAPPY at all. Dark Brown window should be dark brown all around!

You know colors as well as any at this point and have the advantage of being on site. You may want to check out E-series since it has custom interior colors and 50+ exterior color options. You could also look at Marvin and see if any of there colors work.

Id also look into the factory applied trim options, they look really nice.

I have Andersen 400 (in Santone) that were manufactured and installed in 2003/2004. I have been very pleased with them. In fact, the other day I placed an order for a few parts (new balancer and a few miscellaneous items), they were very helpful and had every part to repair an 18-year-old window that needed attention.
