I’m going to disagree with both of you guys, and say this is a fantastic analogy. 1968 Camaro 396, 0-60 in 6 sec+/-, qtr mile in 14.6 +/-, and mpg of roughly 13 combined. Cost: let’s say around $20k to restore a solid candidate 2018 Camaro 4cyl turbo, 0-60 in 5.4sec, qtr mile in 14sec, 25mpg combined. Cost: $26k off the showroom floor. Most car guys will probably take the 68 every time, simply for the intangible reasons, but as far as mileage, performance, comfort, technology, etc the 2018 wins in every measurable area. 69’ is the most sought after and ‘70 is my personal fav, but that’s neither here nor there. Payback? Let’s say you drive 15k miles per year. I wouldn’t drive a classic as a daily driver personally, but then again I wouldn’t keep rickety old windows either. Anyway, at 15k miles and a gas price of $2.80per gal, you’d save about $100 per month in fuel with the 2018. Coincidentally, that covers the extra $6k in cost just about exactly if we are financing the spend over say 60mos, which is typical. The 2018 would probably get a better rate of financing which would push the savings further as well.... All of this is in good fun of course, but again, I think restoring a classic Camaro vs buying a new one actually is a pretty good analogy here, and it’s fun to illustrate that as opposed to popping in and taking baseless cheap shots against window guys. At the end of the day, both have pros and cons, with with the Classics (both cars and windows) having more subjective benefits, whereas the new stuff is objectively a slam dunk.

Sophie, the OP didn't say why he wanted to install a room air conditioner, and I think it's a stretch to assume it's because his home HVAC system isn't doing its job. Not everyone has or wants central air conditioning. As it happens, for example, I have 2 rooms with air conditioners in my house. That's intentional. One gets used regularly, the other only a few times per year. This setup works for me. And if someone (say, a guest in my home) tried to tell me that I should upgrade my HVAC system because my room air conditioners didn't meet his standards, he probably wouldn't get invited back. For the record, I agree that a mini-split would do the OP well. One of my air conditioners is a mini-split, and I like it. But it was outrageously expensive. I bit the bullet because I needed an especially quiet system. I hope installers have come to their senses since I had mine installed, but at the time, the installation cost over $1000. I had other quotations in the $2000 range. From what I could tell, they wanted about the same fee as they charged for a central air conditioner. In many other places I know of where mini-splits are popular -- Asia, South America, the Middle East, even Puerto Rico -- getting one installed usually costs around $100-300. I don't know about the EU.

I had the same question when we added drapes in our master that had none. I went with just single on the ones by the bed and double in the bumpout. Single is quicker opening and cheaper but not as full when closed but they are only closed at night. I mounted them all the same but should raise the ones by the bed. There are 3 windows on that wall the same dimensions. These are costco drapes best deal for the size. The room is still a work in progress

I agree with WoW, picture window. One piece of glass is classic and so much easier to clean. You have 4 SHs on the second story. More SHs is too same-same. I would want a focal point. Picture window. If you want the breeze, three proportional casement or horizontal rolling like this looks nice, but it’s modern, not so traditional, and may be walking you into more of a transitional look. The odd number of three is never a bad thing. Definitely neither the two SH, nor the three disproportional 25/50/25, imho. Ooooo, I like that I can edit an older post on the computer version of Houzz :) Looking at the photo example I posted, I have to imagine that the space that those three windows I see on the above example is wider than your opening by a bit, maybe double the width of window space you're working with, idk. And when I zoomed in on the above picture, I realized they literally separated, those three windows (so pretty), by a few inches. After noticing the width you're working with and the above details, I'm back to " single piece of glass picture window." I wonder if this is possible--picture window on the top two-thirds of the opening and two casement or awning windows that do open side by side on the bottom third of the opening? Too contemporary? Too weird? I'm just enjoying pondering someone else's project while ignoring my own :)
