IKEA cabinet - how can I make it look less like Ikea?
Comments (22)Not knowing the sq. footage of your space, it's hard to push you in that direction... my tile is just those three walls (can't see the the third) - as the sink is set into that space and stands alone. I think all said and done it was $400 for tile and labor - but the guy just came in to do this job. You'll be bidding out for more tile than just this.... so labor wise, it probably won't add much to your overall labor cost. I purchased at a local tile store - but was just in Lowes last night and they have some really pretty glass accents (like the one I used) -- if that's your thing. It just added a little extra interest. The wall where my towel holder is (to the left of the sink) was just full of water drip stains. You can't get them out. It was either re-paint every couple years or tile. As for your sink choice - I truly believe it comes down to the look you want to achieve. The all white cabinet, with white subway tiles and accent tiles would look pretty awesome. I can't imagine that the fiberboard is any less durable than the pine.......See MoreWill the darker gray shade on a strip show less blue?
Comments (12)So even if it's on the same strip card, it could have different undertones? Undertones are purely subjective, experiential and have nothing to do with paint colors. Really. They don't. All paint color collections are based on hue families. To that point, Sherwin Williams just released their new in-store color display which organizes their colors by hue family first, then by saturation (vivid to dull). Major colorimetry kudos to Sherwin Williams for getting it right. When it comes to the old SW color strips, there is no guarantee that all the colors on the strip are from the same hue family. They *might* be. They might not. A paint color strip is not a color string. A color string is when you take the darkest color in the group and do mathematical "let-downs" so you end up with different value steps of the same color. Most paint color strips are not color strings, are not mathematical "let-downs". Color string color strips do exist in the market, but there aren't many. The majority of the time you have a random collection of paint colors with *maybe* some attribute or aspect in common featured together on one strip. (so if you come across some kind of magical "paint color system" that claims to make paint color selection "no-fail" based on fandecks or color strips know that they're total b.s.) I'd rather greenish/brown undertones than blue/purple! Dovetail SW 7018 belongs to the yellow hue family. Which is why even the digital swatch looks far away from anything blue/purple. I know it belongs to the yellow hue family because I'm that color professional who sometimes visits the GW. ;) Lowes mixed it and it turns out, the gallons I bought were slightly different than the sample can I used and based my decision on. So...I'm thinking I may be able to wind up with more paint at their expense (hiring painter for my vaulted ceilings, though, is on me). When you cross brands and color match, all bets are off, no guarantees. Lowe's uses different colorants than Sherwin Williams. While Lowe's (or any place) can indeed produce a color match that might meet paint industry standards for being a "color match", no one is promising that it's going to look and behave in situ exactly like the original SW color mixed using original SW product....See MoreMake gray look less blue? :(
Comments (19)Opening this up for help and discussion again. Trying not to lose my mind . LOL! Looking for a warm light tan color. A light beige possibly? Baby fawn looks grey/blue. It's too cold for this room. Want an off white with warm brownish tones but no pink/yellow/peach undertones. Any advice? :) may try the Muslin out today!...See MoreHow can I make the exterior look less dated? Pls help!!!
Comments (38)Another beautiful house that fell into the gray trap. Get rid of the gray and the house will be fine. Choose one of the colors out of the bigger color scheme of littlebug. The white is too white too. A tone of light beige will accommodate the walls to the brick. A truly dark red or dark green might be nice accent colors, but don't overdo it. Maybe just the door and the swing (which can stay in my opinion, but the pillows are too modern). Besides that: do people not build and buy such houses for the 'dated' look? It is supposed to look like from another era. So do not update, but preserve the look. The rest of the house is beautiful as it is. It doesn't have to be all Tudor style, per se. Have you seen the movie 'pride or prejudice'. That house also has such a wooden railing. In my opinion your door and windows look beautiful too. Some agents of styles tend to become to stringent. So: paint will do a marvelous job on an already lovely house....See MoreAngelo Guevara
