Either choose the art or rug first. Art should be about 2/3 the width of the sofa so about 64" wide and the rug should be 2 feet wider than the sofa (so you have a foot of rug on each side). So an 8x10 might work

What is the Main purpose of the room? Will there be a TV or no TV?

How many people use the room daily? How many guests do you want to accommodate?

The antique swag drapery and the contemporary sofa are in contradiction with each other. I'd give up the curtains and focus on the sofa. Celery has a great idea for you. I think you could use a chair or two.

I would start By selecting a piece of art that you love, from there I would pull those colors out when you’re selecting your new rug, I would also update the window treatments and put straight pleated panels instead of the swag

I guess I'm the odd one out but I like the window treatment. If you mix the right things together you could have an eclectic look which is so much more interesting. I prefer a mix myself but its harder to achieve the right mix. Your floor is a nice warm tone and I love that dusky blue sofa color. How big is the room?

The main function of this room will be a family living room area (kids and adults) as well as guest area, so reading and chatting and lounging will be happening here (no TV). The other side of the room is a dining room but the room is very large and empty and I love the light, empty open area so I like to keep it uncluttered.

Will it make the room too dark to do a darker rug for practicality purposes?

I'm thinking about the window treatments, I probably will replace it but will leave that for last.

The rendering was constructed with the 15' x 7' measurement. I can see that there is a door to the right of the windows. I guessed that the windows are about 6 to 7 ' wide and that the wall leads into the open kitchen you were mentioned. I can't be certain of the length of the wall with the door on it and what the kitchen looks like so I just added my imagination to the room.

Here is a rendering for your viewing pleasure. Please know that the colors are as close to what you mentioned. I did add a touch of black and a very large mirror accross from the window to reflect light. The small round blue things next to the chairs are stools that can double as seating or as a place to put something on. Otherwise I tried to stick to the desired blue/white/gold colors you wanted.

Also, please know that not the style but the furniture placement is what is being presented.

The couch in the rendering is 6'8". I believe that yours is a bit wider and that it will still conform to the rendering as shown.
