Brown desk and brown floors - and if there's to be a rug, do you like bit of warm color? As to 'cool' - are those a blue-grey? do you have a link to them?

Right now I have a white, grey and mostly teal shaded traditional style rug. It’s seen better days, so I think I’ll get a new one. I love deep teal, and in the office I wanted a dark old library feel. I painted the walls a deep blue green, but it is now a nightmare because it’s peeling off the walls. Never use Behr Marquee, especially with dark intense colors. The furniture is IKEA Lommarp collection. It is called blue-green. I’d call it closer to Prussian blue than a teal, but regardless, I need a different color on the walls. I think a loose interpretation of William Morris or at least those rich historical colors would look nice with this desk.

Here’s a peek at this nightmare paint. It is now 3 years old and still rubbery. I think I’m going to see what happens when I use a nylon scrubber with warm sudsy water. I’m not looking forward to this disaster, but I have to get back to a stable base before I can paint again. Right now I’m just trying to find a color.

Is the paint peeling off in sheets? It probably was latex paint painted on top of oil paint.

You might want to wait until you find your new rug to decide on the paint colour but if you're looking for a dark cozy home library vibe, how about matching the walls to the new Ikea furniture? Give them a built-in look? Depends on what's going on in the rest of the space. I like the lines of those Ikea pieces, btw.

I feel you on the peeling paint! I have the same issue in a bedroom and the hallway. Pretty sure it's a latex over oil paint issue in my case but for whatever reason, it took 15 years to surface. My peeling paint is BM. It's a maddening mess but supposedly, I now have the right BM primer to "fix" the issue. I have a dark Behr colour in the dining room. Just a coverage issue there. No peeling.

Love the color of your furniture.
Sample some blue colors.
Maybe some whites also.
But I’m thinking that maybe a wallpaper will work. Aesthetically (loveee wallpaper) and maybe practically for you and the paint dilemma.

If you are considering wallpaper, as HU-1875 proposed, Spoonflower has a bunch of William Morris prints available as wallpaper, both traditional and non-stick removable. I can't vouch for their quality but thought I'd mention it. Patterned wallpaper, plain rug? One option. I like warm neutral colours with those blue-green pieces. A lighter brighter version of the current wall colour would certainly work. Coral as a nice soft accent? You have loads of colour options!

This office has lighter floors than yours but the wall colour would certainly work with your floors as well.
