Furniture Placement in odd shaped living room
Comments (17)I think these are my favorite! i never would have pushed the furniture over that far towards the stairs. But I like it. what would you put in the back "nook" and then now at the bottom right of the layout (which leads into the dining room)? anything? Kids toy organization will go somewhere for the next few years :)...See Moresmall living room odd built in
Comments (6)Congratulations on your new purchase! It looks as if the built in was "added" to the room and not original to the home. Since the space is new to you, I would move in and live with it for a few months to see how you can use the built-in. Of course I don't have any idea of the size and style of furniture you are planning to use, but I think you can definitely have a sofa on the left side of the room, instead of a round coffee table, consider an oval table, it won't stick out in the walking bath of the french doors to the slider. Also, instead of another sofa or loveseat on the opposite side of the room, consider a chair and ottoman in the location of the grandfather clock and art piece. You might even be able to do two small lounge chairs. Just don't put them directly in front of the window with the backs to the window. You might also see if the shelves of the built in are adjustable. If so, take out a few of the shelves so that you have some asymmetrical spaces. Doing this will allow you to put a large sculpture or art piece in a space. Don't overcrowd the shelves with "geegaws", NO SILK PLANTS, add some hard bound books. You might also like to paint the back of the shelf unit the wall color, leaving the shelves and sides white to match the trim. Isn't it exciting to make this new house your home! Please post some photos of what you come up with. Always remember, "less is more!" All the best!...See Morevery small, odd shaped living room with no room for a couch, help!
Comments (10)Hey Mikeala, while you may have to make some compromises due to space restrictions, you can definitely fit a compact couch in the room. As @mindshift recommends, it would a good idea to keep all your furniture compact and as small as possible. I've made a couple of options for you here. (All dimensions are approximated from the images you have posted) For the first layout, I've eliminated the coffee table and added a slim console by the entrance, a wall mounted TV and an end table. You could also buy nested tables so you could stack them when they aren't being used. For the area by the staircase, I've added a tall bookcase and a couple of chairs for extra seating. adding a mirror would give a sense of a larger space, I've styled this room with modern furniture with a touch of hollywood glam. For the second option, the entrance is more open although the TV unit has been placed on the large wall. This allows TV viewing from both seating areas and yet separates the space. You may prefer this layout if you don't like the idea of having a living right at the entrance. I've styled this room with Scandinavian furniture. Do send us measurements and photos so we could further customize these for you. You could also add/ swap furniture and make your own layouts here....See MoreOdd shaped living room layout/decor
Comments (2)Don't know what the heck those numbers mean on the floor plan. You'll probably have to "float" the seating arrangement in the middle of the room. A couch will be in the middle, with the back of it hugging the straight dash line. To either side of it (allowing of course for room to get around), will be an upholstered chair. Add curtains, side tables, art, rug etc. See if you can get local art. Art is a very personal thing. Take your time and get pieces you love. Carefully consider the amount of space you have to move around. I personally like more space than stuff, but that's me. How many people do you usually have sitting in this room? If you entertain a lot, consider additional seating with poofs and/or mini ottomans that people can sit on. Another option for extra seating is putting slightly upholstered straight back chairs in the corner for company. I'm personally not keen on Bobs furniture - I'm just giving you a general idea. Measure twice, buy once! https://www.mybobs.com/furniture/living-room/chairs/p/20061608001 In my opinion, gray is kind of trendy. You may want to think of a more classic color. Sherwin WIlliams is my fav, but there are a lot of paint companies out there. https://www.sherwin-williams.com/homeowners/color/find-and-explore-colors/paint-colors-by-family#/active/color-wall/section/sherwin-williams-colors Sherwin Williams has brochures in their stores that show how to coordinate everything in a room with a certain color. I worked in customer service for many years. If you get a nt so helpful person - ask for someone else or go to a different store. In my opinion, there's no excuse for bad customer service....See MoreMarin Cvitanovic
