Looking for suggestions to hide the concrete of front porch/steps

I have a few spirea here currently, but plan on moving them to a different location. My front steps landing has 1-2 feet of visible vertical concrete. I’m not really sure what I’d like to put there. I’m in NW Illinois

Which direction does the bed face? Also how deep is the bed, and are you looking for something flowering, or more of an evergreen? You should get plenty if suggestions once we know more....

This bed faces NW and is fairly shallow, around 3 feet. I don’t really have a preference on evergreen vs flowering so I’d like to get suggestions of both

We're doing a remodel and I've had our contractors enclose the front door with a small entryway/porch to prevent cold air rushing in through the front door. Now I need to have them create a 3' platform and two steps to the ground. But I can't decide on style! Tiled? Concrete? Wood? Give me some suggestions! The style of the house reno is very sleek white/light natural wood finishes with mid century accents (some fixtures etc). Tile inside the porch will be Parvatile Docklight Hexagon and the house will be repainted pale gray with white trim. The outside of the porch will have white siding to match the house. The front door will be lime green (literally...) Here's a photo of the current state - siding, door and obviously steps to come...

Not a Pro. Most people want color they can see from the street. An area rug will only be seen by you and the guests that you invite over. If you are far from the street, then an area rug is for you. .I would give it a try. It will give the area tons of color for very little effort on your part. My concerns with it, would be people tripping and curling corners, if it does not lay flat. If you want color that can be seen, colorful planters, flowers and pillows is the way to go.

Go to a garden center and ask them to suggest a medium height ground cover for a hillside. Shown below is pachysandra that camouflages the sides of the steps. Creeping juniper is also a suitable groundcover for a hillside, which stays green all winter. In either case, consider a much wider planting, which could save you mowing and create a green oasis in a hard to maintainlocation. juniper, which could be brought closer to steps.

hey... moving along with all the projects ...

same as always... foundation planting are planted to hide the foundation ... NOT ON THE FOUNDATION ... to get the height you need.. and to be planted the proper distance from the house/stairs.. you need to come out into the lawn ... and plant a nice shrub that will mature at the 5 foot level ...

and make your perspective from the street ... where the pic was taken .. not standing up close ...

at one vantage point you need a 3 footer.. at the closer range.. you might need 5 or 6.. and that wont look good ...

If the concrete looks too 'raw', you could paint it to blend in better.

Do you like hydrangeas? I think Bobos or Little limes would look nice there.
