Great kitchen! I think the metal industrial stools you link to would look great in your kitchen. They would echo the slightly industrial kitchen vibe of your oversized subway tile. But they also look "old fashioned/retro" enough to play well with the rest of your kitchen design. What kind of lighting fixtures to you have (I can't see them in your picture). Are they also a little retro/industrial? If so, all the better.

Kitchens are a great place to put a lot of color, especially with white cabinets and appliances. You don't have that much wall space left over so it's harder for a color to become overwhelming. You can always put something like the turquoise above a chair rail and a darker shade of the same color -- even as dark as a navy, or a contrasting but more neutral color -- like a cocoa, on the bottom. If you don't have photoshop, make a copy of your photo (color or B/W) and white out the walls, then make several more copies. Get out some crayons or colored pencils and get a feel for what you like. My DH can't visualize things, so we had to go through a similar process with the drawings of our kitchen plans to make some of the decisions.

Jant - Didn't even think about the DR chairs. Very good point. I don't care for the styles that close together. Someone will get some stools with potential for a good price! Necia - Thank you! I took some close up photos. The lady who made them sews for fun but never made anything like this before. When I got the remaining fabric back there were square pieces left over for around the bottom she pieced on. I asked her to make them as you see but if I could do it again it would be better if they somehow fit around the top of the stool. I cut out those rubber shelf liners for on the stools thinking it would help keep them in place. They're fine to sit on but when you get up they usually need adjusted. Since I don't really use them it doesn't bother me. I'm sure I can rig them somehow but I didn't get around to it. Maybe a big square of velcro. :) The stools are 24". Top is 12". I ordered the foam online from the place in the link below. Bought the 2" thick Lux Foam High Quality. The pleats are 5" long. The gold fabric is silk and she picked up that white piping stuff. She wasn't sure how to finish the piping but I think it looks fine how she did. I know they're not the norm but I do get a lot of compliments on them and I think they look nicer IRL. Depending on your family and life style I would avoid fabric covered anything. The dining room seems to be significantly easier to keep chairs really clean in vs the stools at an island in my experience. For us when we did our kitchen which is open to the dining area I wanted the stools to be very low profile and not be the star. I wanted the island and the colour of it, which is a dark grey called iron mountain to be the star. As a result our stools are actually chrome bottoms and then acrylic see through on the top. With three kids I need to wipe them often but everything always wipes off...I shudder to imagine if they were fabric!
