Scandinavian interior living room wall art ideas

I’m a traveler. Lived 10 years of my life in 30 different countries’ countless cities. Now I have lots of moments from my journeys, worth hanging on my walls. I’m the type of person who believes that one shouldn’t hang 5$ garbage photos just to fill walls.

At the same time, my home’s interior is scandinavian style. I don’t want to mess up the color coherence with colorful photographs.

Trying to find that middle point between colorful life moments and scandinavian style to put photos in a right way. Making photos black and white seems the only way for my situation. Would like to hear from others their opinions.

I will post the the art spots that I would like to fill with wall art .

I would definitely do some black and white. But I don’t think you can have any color.
....

I would try to pick pictures with calmer colors and use the funkier bolder ones in small frames in random places (examples- night stands, shelves, bathroom countertops...)
.....

I know you didn’t ask, and I’m sure you have a reason, but if you can, I think I’d rotate the sectional.

I like your space and love that big plant! You could put a chair, with front feet on the rug, between the book cases and the TV stand. That would be both a nice place to read and also would make a nice conversational seating arrangement. I would also put a single larger piece of art on the wall between the book case and the TV. I think multiple pictures / gallery would be too busy next to the mirrors. I don't love the lamp so close to the lowest mirror so I might be inclined to move it closer to the book case or elsewhere in the room. Hope you'll share pictures as you continue working on the room. It's a very pretty space.

Hi Jennifer, I have a few thoughts to offer before you start moving art around. The empty space in left corner looks, well, empty. And the sofa with chaise on right looks jammed into right corner against wall. That piece doesn’t need to be tight into a corner, & if you have drapery panels, which it looks like you do from rod above window, there’s not room for them to hang to floor. And,if panels are hung they’ll cover the items you have on either side of window. Not every wall space needs to have something on it. Some blank spaces help things look less cluttered My suggestions are these: 1. Center sofa with chaise on the wall so there’s some space on both sides. Try turning coffee table to line up length wise with sofa on left to create floor space & so it doesn’t crowd end of chaise. 2. remove art from both sides of window & rehang drape panels to soften & cozy up room. 3. Add those pieces to the arrangement above sofa on left. That entire arrangement is too close to ceiling. Tip - Lay all the pieces on floor & move around until you have an arrangement you like. tape paper cut outs on wall to mock up the arrangement to test & to prevent dartboard holes on wall! 4. Yes, large art should be centered over sofa & bottom of art about 6” above sofa back 5. Invest in a larger end table for the corner between the 2 sofas & place one of tray tables on right end of chaise sofa. Needs something to set a glass etc on while sitting there. I know this is more than what you asked for but I do think these changes will show off you new furniture better and make the room look more inviting. PS - the drapery rod looks same length as window. It usually looks better to have drape panels when pulled open stack fully off the window so you might look at a longer rod.

Hi. Design needs to happen in a logical order. So, I recommend prior to decorating that wall, you 1) Create a good floor plan. This one is not the best. I can help you with that if you tell me what the function of this space is and if there is a tv in the room. Finally, is this furniture staying in the room? Please post a photo of all 4 walls of the room, Thanks. 2) Find photos of rooms you like. What design/style do you like? Once you have those, we can then think about decorating the wall.

New house and no idea how to lay out my living room furniture or decorate these tall bland walls. Disclaimer: pictures are 3D generated. Assume all things in living room are movable (except TV/fireplace). 3D furniture pieces are more for a “style reference” Purpose of the post: Any suggestions as far as retailers with this style furniture, color schemes you’d incorporate, advice on literally everything, decor/furniture whatever! I want to know what YOU would do with this space if it were urs. My house is an open layout (pic attached) 12 foot ceilings in the kitchen/living/dining area, 9ft everywhere else. My current living room furniture is handed down from family. I’m getting rid of all of it. The pieces are large and bulky for the space. It really closes in the room and I think the space has potential to feel larger. The corner fireplace is seriously throwing me off my game. As far as furniture preferences go: I promised the husband a recliner. I personally would like my own chair as well. Here’s the kicker, we want them in front of the tv… I want to be able to seat as many people as possible, and I STRONGLY dislike a sectional. “Well kid ya shoulda thought about that when you designed the floor plan” yeahhhhh I didn’t think about that. Style/colors: Obvi I like black and white. I LOVE CONTRAST I also love shades of red I have grey and chrome incorporated all over the place. I honestly don’t know what my design style is, I think it dabbles towards glam contemporary but it’s not all the way over there. I have a cat and plan to have children in the near future so do with that info what you will. Backstory: me (25F) and my husband (26M) are both engineers and we designed this house from the ground up with no outside help. We’re super proud of it and it’s our personalities in a nutshell.

Wrong subject matter, but showing these for concept. How about selecting your three favs and having them blown up and done in B&W or sepia? Put some other favs in table top picture frames and an album for the coffee table. If you can't narrow down to your top 3-5, maybe this shelf idea would look Scandi enough.

I would move the sectional out from the wall a few inches and about a foot closer to the projection wall so that there is more room to walk behind it. I think a square ottoman or organic wood table would look better than the white coffee table.

Move the lamps out of the corner. They look like they are in time out. You could add more greenery to the space.

I really like the idea of wall to wall shelving to display an assortment of your travel photos. You can easily put three shelves. Use the same frame for most of the photos, but mix a few different ones. The inspiration picture had 21 photos, so that can be your guide. Notice how they were layered and in various sizes. Definitely use color. You could have one of your favorites reproduced on canvas and put it on the projection wall to the right near the windows.

I don't believe any of these suggestions is in conflict with a Scandinavian vibe. You have a great space.

Generally, uneven numbers work best; 3-5-7. If you did something like the shelves you want to leave 1/3 of the space open overall.

Right now at least one of the shades is touch the wall. I would move them about 2 to 3 inches from the wall. Not much, but a big difference.
