External lock for a sliding door?

Hello - I'm about to have some construction done in a part of my house that has a sliding glass door on one side of the room. The construction is gonna cause a lot of dust, so ideally we'd like to just seal that room off from the rest of the house for the duration of the project, and have the workmen and materials go in and out through the sliding door. The problem is...the door only locks from the inside right now. (And we can't just leave it unlocked when the guys leave for the day, otherwise someone can just walk into the house from the outside and, if they wanted to, slice through the plastic where we have sealed things off, and have their run of the house.) Does anyone know of an external lock we could add to our slider? Thank you!

Most patio door manufacturers off a key lock to add to the existing deadbolt with thumb-turn.

Then look at hits like Amazon and see if you see a matching outside key lock in the +/- $25 range

I don't have weatherstripping on the door panels but since aluminum is such a good conductor I covered my doors with the good bubble Insulation from Charlie's. Their is not room on the inside door needs to open so I put it on the outside. I live in Northern Indiana and it gets cold here so I have mine well insulated.

I doubt that a loose thumb turn is evidence of tampering, I'd be more inclined to think it's just come loose. These kinds of things are often just press fitted together unless you see something like a screw head. Contact Marvin or your dealer about replacement options.

I think a hook and eye is your “best” option here if you are going to keep the barn door. I am with @Sophie Wheeler in that barn doors are a terrible idea functionally. They look great on baths in showhomes and design blogs, but they are terrible for noise and light reduction and well, as seen cause issues if you actually want to lock it. A friend of mine bought a new build with a reclaimed wood barn door on master bath and soon switched out for a real door: middle of the night pee breaks or early risers meant a light flashing in rest of master or the rolling noise of a door or the noise of someone getting ready while other was still sleeping: more commonly all of those at once.

Why do barn doors need external hardware?

I'd love to install barn doors on a bypass track in my dining room closet. But we don't have clearance around the frame for the barn door hardware I see everywhere. Can barn doors be mounted inside the frame like other sliding closet doors? Is it a weight issue?
