What color paint goes with light white oak floors?
we're putting in new white oak floors (see pic below) and i was wondering what color paint goes best with it. i'm leaning toward cream walls with pink undertones and white ceiling/molding. my husband is opting more for a grayish white hue. the furniture is: beige couches/white marble dining table with dark brown chairs/black piano+tv and wall of white bookcases.
any ideas would be appreciated!

2 years agoI would never choose a pink toned paint for living spaces and not sure whay you would either. BTW we need to see your space and before choosing wall color you need to make sure all your lighting is the same everywhere LEDs 4000K I happen to like a light grayed / green for a neutral IMO much more neutral than gray or beige for sure this is one I use often if you like a bit lighter then just cut it 25%

Comments (11)I can't see your photos, so can't see exactly the color oak you have...... but we just went thought this with our gold-colored floors, which are red oak. We originally thought we'd like a mid-toned wood like a slightly stained maple. We brought home sample pieces from the kitchen cabinet store, and looked at them against the floor on all kinds of light. The stained maple looked awful. The natural maple, which when new is really light, looked nice, but we knew that in a couple of years it would have yellowed, and look much the same as the floors. The natural cherry looked slightly light (because it was new and not sun-changed yet) but it looked the best; plus, within a few months cherry darkens up so it will look even better. That's what we chose. I do think white would look great with the golden-toned oak floor... but I've just seen soooooo many white kitchens, and the style of our house begs for wood cabinets, so we chose cherry. I recommend going to the cabinet place and asking if you can take samples home. They usually have stacks of little wood pieces for customers to try. Look at them in all light, day, night, sunny, cloudy. And remember that all wood will change with age. Cherry is one of the quickest, and it gets darker. Comments (23)Such a nice space! All that wood is going to boss around your decorating. You are smart to try to work with it instead of fight it with cool colors. I think orange is definitely out as an accent color. It is just going to enhance the orange tones of the wood. I would consider painting all the doors in the dining space, it will make the space look less chopped up. I saw on another thread that you are replacing the kitchen floor. Have you considered a slate look tile with faint brown accents? Your floor will have a nice clean look and the accents will work with the wood and will look good with your taupe cabinets. Comments (6)Okay…paint color for North light and the upholstery is what is important. Disregard the color of the floors because a rug would be in order. This is B.M. Mirage White (SW should be able to match it, but if you have a B.M. store, go there). North light needs a lilac gray and your chair seat is perfect for this color.
