Thanks Gary. I wasn't looking to attach any orchids. My property is very sunny with little shade. I am always on the search for tree limbs to hang my baskets from. I don't like attaching orchids because the winters are tricky. I like to bring plants in if the weather turns cold or frost is possible. I have a large oak which would serve the purpose except I had it pruned last year and the lowest limb is about 20ft high. All my orchids are hanging under the one tree which provides shade, a loquat tree. That tree shades too much. I'm constantly moving the plants around to catch more sun. I'm thinking these Guava trees might fit the bill once they fill out a bit. They were overgrown with vines and bushes (as a matter of fact, I didn't even know 3 of them were there), we spent 2 weekends chopping all the vines and bushes away and, low and behold, there were the trees. So, I'm thinking my higher light orchids may have found a new spot to hang out. Jane

Hi luigi, You are right about that most of the Eugenias can grow and fruit well in pots. Eugenia klotzschiana is really hard to grow. It's native to cerrado (Brazil) and everyone I have talked to have trouble growing it. E. lutescens is ultra-rare and virtually impossible to find seeds. E. stipitata and E. neonitida seeds you can order from Fruit Lover's Nursery in Hawaii (google it) among other places. Other Eugenias you may want to look into: Eugenia aggregata Eugenia brasilensis Eugenia luschnathiana And perhaps you want to try to grow jaboticaba (Myrciaria cauliflora). The red hybrid variety will fruit in just a few years from seed. I hope this gets you started. Tomas

Strawberries and sage in a pattern. Thyme around it as well. Lots of other plants in the background. Potager garden. Around the fountain is onion, blueberries, raspberries, herbs and a few flowers (monarda and agastache). In the potager beds there’s currently basil, cucumbers, peppers and miniature roses. I swap out the potager beds each season with different annuals, but the ones around the fountain stay consistent. Next in the potager there will be lettuce, broccoli and radishes (along with the miniature roses.... they stay each season). I espaliered my pomegranate tree and also a Cara Cara orange tree between climbing roses. I have various other citrus and fruit trees with roses, thyme and creeping rosemary near them. I believe it helps with pollination as well as looks beautiful, if you have the room. Google “potager garden” pics and you will find a bunch of beautiful French designs for combining flowers, veggies, fruits and herbs.

I did see there is a eugenia commonly called 'Beach cherry', but online photos don't look exactly like this. I grew up w/ Surinams and have one in my yard. I did see the less ribbed fruits in my searches. I saw so many unusual plants during my stay in Santa Monica last month, I would not be surprised if it's something I never heard of before, but it really resembles a eugenia more than anything else, and I did see some bushes while I out walking around the neighborhood.
