How to add privacy to a large picture window that is in the shower

Need some advice please about how to handle a large window in the shower. What are good options for privacy that would still let you have some feeling of the outside? I read that frosted windows become more clear when wet.

Would a cling window film be best option? if so, any recommendations? thank you

All your options are a trade off. Frosted windows will not become noticably clearer when wet. I think blinds/shades will give the most versatility .

A tall hedge outside the house. : ) A slatted privacy fence outside the house. A motorize shade, OUTSIDE the house. Replace the window glass with electric allowing you to see out, and nobody to see in. ( Switchglass )

I have glass panes in my back door. I have cordless cellular blinds on it. Whenever I go out and at night, I pull the blinds down. I raise them during the day. The blinds you see in the picture have been there for ten years, so they have held up well. This has worked well for me, and this is the door we use almost exclusively to go in and out because it is close to the driveway. They are light enough so that they do no bang if someone uses the door when the blinds are down. My son caught his bike on the metal trim at the bottom and sprung it. The dark spot at the top is a shadow. Excuse the snowman "jingle bells". They are my year-round burglar alarm!

Google privacy films appliques and you will come up with a ton of options. The combination of the obscure glass and the film should be more than enough. I assure that if anyone is staring that hard through that glass so as to get a view, they are creepy as all get up and you should be calling the cops anyway.

If outside people can see the window, I would close it up completely or below 5-6’ height. Or landscape in front of it so no one is tempted to look in. Window film is a temporary solution. Maybe outside shutters that close over the window could be an option. I had a neighbor who put frosted windows into his bathroom on the side of his house. The frosted film didn’t help. Once the light went on, TMI, even if just blurry shapes. People will look into bathroom windows from the street or sidewalk or their neighboring homes. It’s just too weird and the windows shouldn’t be there unless they are completely private or above shoulder level.

We have a window in our shower. I was not willing to permanently block the view with frosted glass. We used a tension rod to hold a shower curtain that can be closed when needed. Ours only covers the bottom part of the window when it’s closed. Not sure if that can be done to match the style of your bathroom, but just a thought. For us, it looks great and functions exactly as I’d hoped.

What is out there that drives the need for privacy . I agree we need to see the outside.I see no houses so maybe a bit more info, BTW frosting still shows shadows .

Do you need something for "psychological" privacy or because there really is a need to prevent people from viewing the interior of your bathroom.

I ask because I live in a high rise and there really isn't any need for me to ever draw the blinds because of privacy because there is no one who would be able to see anything unless they used binoculars which is not something I worry about.

The view is beautiful and part of the integral part of the design of your bathroom. I would do nothing at all that would change it. If prvacy was necessary I would get some kind of shades that installed on the exterior that could be operated remotely and they would only be used when privacy was absoutely necessary. I assume that would be limited since it would be a major design flaw (at least in my opinion) if the shades had to be drawn from privacy any time someone was in the room because at least for me I wouldn't want to feel the potential for my privacy being invaded whenever I was in a bathroom.

FWIW I have interior doors which use something called Lamina. It is completely opaque and there are no shadows visible if someone is in the bathroom with the light on. I tested it at the showroom before ordering the doors. The showroom actually used them in their public bathroom so it is obviously as fully opaque as wood and yet gives the illusion of light and air.

We are planning on this same thing. i don't care for the look of frosted glass, and our design team pointed out that we could always add the film if we changed our mind. I am thinking about doing a vinyl roller shade. I also like the idea above about a cafe curtain in an outdoor fabric that could be taken down to wash. We are also planning to do a freestanding fence with vines growing up on the outside. Your bathroom is gorgeous! What is on the walls?

If you feel you actually need something. We put in a cellular blind, same color as the trim, that is top down bottom up. It rarely gets used so for most of the time it is hardly noticeable and leaves the view intact. When we have company that wants more privacy they pull the blind down, either the whole blind or just the bottom section in place for privacy.

Thank you for the feedback. The outside of the window is the upper one here. I think the tension rod idea may be good to do until we have a better idea. It’s a new construction house so at this point can’t change the windows. there is a house with windows behind the backyard. although our house is taller you could look into their windows so im assuming that means they could do the same. i wish that the builder had made the window shorter and this would be a non-issue but too late now.

Because the window is in the shower and would get wet every time you use the shower, i don’t think blinds would work

We used a tension rod and a cafe curtain in our shower. Our window isn't as large as yours. It works great.

Hey there: you do need a window treatment in the window regardless whether you have privacy issue or not. The problem is that the window treatment will get wet each time you shower, so roller shade, honeycomb shades or bottom-up top-down blinds are not really an option. You do need wood, faux wood, vinyl or aluminum. So wood blinds, plantation shutters, faux wood blinds or aluminum mini blinds are your options...
