What are you accenting and why? I would paint the whole room BM Kentucky Haze. I think the Dorian Gray feels muddy next to the Kentucky Haze and that is more of an issue than the lightness/darkness of the wall.

I was accenting it with the Kentucky Haze because this picture is taken from the other side of the TV wall and then leads all the way down my staircase which I have always felt like was too dark. Downstairs is SW Collonade Gray which this color would lead into.

I would paint the entire room, the color of the window wall, and add some lighting to the room. It seems to be a bit dark in there. In any case, the two colors do not go together .

Would you carry that color all the way down the hallway or just leave BM Kentucky Haze upstairs and instead bring SW Colonnade Gray on the wall with the door leading down to the staircase?

It is a very dark room. I just can’t think of a good light fixture and my husband doesn’t want to put another ceiling fan in.

I would paint everything except the wall that goes downstairs. That wall I would paint to match the downstairs. As long as you are painting I might move up a bit to Beach Glass for the upstairs room. (Kentucky Haze and Mt. Saint Helen are the same color, one color lighter is Beach Glass).

Lightening the paint colors in the stairwell and upstairs will help make things feel lighter.

As for lighting I can't provide much help without knowing what you have downstairs or more about your style.

Look up flush mount ceiling lights and pick something that you love that works with the downstairs look and feel.

You may also want to consider up down blinds for the window. You can adjust the blinds to reduce glare on the tv while still allowing maximum light to come through.
