Something doesn't smell ...
Comments (6)Try Gain, they're noted for having the scent stay in clothes. Tide's regular formulas are also pretty heavily scented too. P&G's marketing plan is Tide for the best cleaning, Cheer for colors, Gain for a scent in clothes, Dreft for babies and Ivory was sort of an all around old name that keeps selling, I think! One thing, the new "2x" Gain is supposed to keep the smell in the clothes better. Also check out some of the "Joyful Expressions" Gain. There's been a lot of people crazy about the Apple Mango scent. I think you're having a machine that's really rinsing out the detergent! I personally look for the opposite. No smell from the wash!...See MoreIs there a really good dishwasher that doesn't cost a fortune?
Comments (68)I was the original author of this thread. I ended up buying the Bosch 500 series SHP65T55UC from Best Buy at a cost of just over $950 including the extended warranty and sales tax. I bought this dishwasher after reading hundreds of reviews from various sources. Simply stated, it appeared to be the best choice for the price. I've used this product for about a month now. For me, the pros and cons are as follows: Pros: Name brand with a reputable history Stainless steel interior Available in multiple colors and door styles The third rack is a helpful feature that I would now miss if I didn't have it. Cons: It will only "clean" dishes that require a moderate wash and rinse. (In other words, a frying pan with scrambled eggs stuck to it when going in the dishwasher, still tends to have eggs stuck to it coming out of the dishwasher.) There is no heating element, so don't expect a load of completely "dry" dishes, either. If you think you might need an item again soon, you might be better off washing it by hand, since this dishwasher may need 2+ hours to complete a load. The noise level varies with the volume and placement of the load. It is not always whisper quiet. To sum up, I do not feel that this dishwasher is worth what I paid for it. I'm convinced that I could have purchased a similar level of quality--perhaps even better--for several hundred dollars less. I've attempted to follow the manufacturer's recommendations regarding both installation and operation. Yet, the performance of this product is disappointing. I'm at a loss to explain the overwhelming consensus of positive reviews that this product has received. Perhaps others have identified virtues that I've yet to perceive. I can only say that I regret this purchase and do not recommend this dishwasher to others....See MoreNeed new dishwasher that doesn't off-gas!
Comments (22)Did you ever find a dishwasher that doesn’t off gas? I just bought a plastic GE dishwasher and the smell is horrible and fills the kitchen. I’ve run it a dozen times and it’s not getting better. I’ve tried vinegar, and strong smelling detergents, and it still smells of plastic. It’s the same smell that memory foam mattresses emit when they’re new. I don’t think the smell is from the nylon racks, it seems to be the plastic lining inside the door that smells so bad. I’m not very happy about it! I am washing dishes by hand for now, because it doesn’t seem safe to eat off of anything that’s been in this thing. I’m not pregnant btw, and my husband and kids smell it too....See MoreNew dishwasher smells like PLASTIC!
Comments (15)We have the same problem. A brand new Miele dishwasher, installed Jan 2024. It replaced our old Miele dishwasher that we had from ~2009. We cannot believe how bad the 'chemical materials' smell from the new Miele. It's been a week, and it is non-stop nauseating. We have all four of us in the house have headaches and I have intestinal pains. I've run it two dozen times, with sani hot cycle, and with detergent, and I finally then also did the cup of vinegar in a bowl in the bottom rack as others had suggested. Our beautiful home has turned into a place where we feel we are constantly being poisoned by the smell, it is so strong. It doens't seem like it's something in a finish, it seems more like coming from the actual materials used to make the machine somehow, like maybe they have some plastic or metal components contributing to the smell. Just really terrible off-gassing kind of smell, but really strong. We've been keeping the door open entirely after running it to try and help it dry well and air out, and then keeping the door unlatched so the smell isn't 'sealed up inside', but it's hardly improving. I'm so frustrated with these chemical engineers who don't have a better understanding of the effects on human or environmental health in the materials they select, and I have lost some trust in Miele as a company over this. I certainly understand that they have a lot of health considerations when choosing materials to use (and then monitor the qualities of throughout sourcing and manufacture), such as bacterial resistance, operations under different water conditions, etc., but there is something very off about these chemical smells here, and I would not consider them fit for washing our dishes or being in our home. I understand from reading others' comments that this is common with newer dishwashers now, but if anyone has any experience with companies that don't have terrible off-gassing from new materials, like the kind of off-gassing that you know will never really go away that is, then I would really like to hear....See Moreanj_p
