Comments (68)I used to feed stale bread to the outside birds.My neighbors dad,who lived at the house part time after retiring to Pa,,,told me it was no good for the birds. So for the last 5 years I have bought wild bird seed,..A year or so ago my neighbor told me I needed to stop feeding them as they pooped on his 50 thousand dollar truck.I told him to F off...Months later I got a warning from town saying I can only feed them with a bird feeder,...I got one,,,,Then he told me not to feed them more than once a day.At 63,with a bad hip,I fed them if I happened to see it empty whenever that was.I got a ticket from town saying the food that falls to the ground as they eat,is illegal.,,,How can people be so mean?...See MoreContractor doesn't want us to do our own demo/finish work
Comments (8)You could pull the permit under your own name, that'll relieve the contractor of any worries over an open permit in his name languishing while awaiting final inspections. As to doing your own demo, the concern there could be that if he blocks out his schedule to start the work and you don't have the demo complete, he'll be twiddling his thumbs waiting for you to finish. I'd recommend setting up an appointment with him for him to see the bathroom a couple of days before he is to start his portion of the work. If this is not your only bathroom, you could do the demo early, have everything broom clean, then he can come by a couple of days before he is to start to inspect your work. He can then give you an "everything's fine" or he might give you a couple of more tasks to do. It can also be an advantage to him as well, because the early visit will prevent any surprises when he shows up to start work. Budgets are not unlimited, I understand your position. But I also see his point, in that this project will sort of have his name on it, yet it's up to you to properly finish the detail work for a project that he started. Still, it's your house. Comments (3)Hmmm, this is definitely a problem. I would call your city building permitting office and ask them about it. Depending on your local regs, it's possible she needed a permit for the pool, and if she didn't have one, they'll take a serious interest. If she did, either they didn't inspect it or she did improper work after it was closed out. There is some chance that they can order her to fix it, but I wouldn't count on it. Still it's the first place to start. They can tell you what your options are. After that, you may end up having to take her to court. You would have to show that there was damage to your property or cost to you, in order to win any kind of settlement or force her to fix it. Comments (19)Hey Wow, I've been absent a couple days from the board (my whole family including DH has the chicken pox). It has been hard to keep up with everything. Just wanted to clear up a couple of things about my initial question and current situation. The paper the realtor had the seller sign was not a contract, it was a disclaimer that any offer presented through the realtor included 3% sales commission. I did not know that at first. Second, my first idea was not a flat fee it was 1.5-2% split evenly by buyer and seller. My confusion was that in our area (midwest) houses sell from 130k to 300k, if my realtor sold a house at 130k of which he has many listed than that would earn him the same sales commission that I was offering him so how could he lose money just because the price was higher. I was confused about that. He did ultimately agree to the fee, maybe only because he was aware we could present our offer directly to the seller. This realtor is a good friend of mine and I think he may have felt bad knowing that the seller did not want to go through him. I wanted to make a deal that would work for all 3 parties. I read another post where people found and bought a fsbo and sent thier realtor a thank you note, and a gas card and hopefully some refferals. I found that concept insulting. I did like some of the ideas about a gift card, more expensive and not for gas ($500), but of course worried that would also be insulting. I did not entertain the idea of them losing money because it is slow sales in our area right now and my realtor's firm just started about 4 months ago. Honestly I would have thought his reaction would have been more along the lines of "Thank you, I know that you had no obligation to use our office and your faith in me means alot". I did not get that reaction and by the time they agreed to the 4000 I felt like I was practically begging. As for owner thinking we were eager buyers, that is possible. I believe he had his house priced about 25K below what a realtor could have sold for. I think that he fairly priced it without that 5-6% in it. I truly believe I got a good price in the end 283500.
