My new build is the same way. It bothered me at first, but when I realized that every seat and step was that way, I didn't worry about it.

Thanks for the advice! So, here is the follow up for anyone interested⦠I tried several products including a 2 step epoxy, a white glue (not E), goop, PlasterWeld and a thin liquid nail product with a fine dispensing tip. The thick stuff was too thick and I couldn't get it in the cracks. The PlasterWeld was too runny and just dripped through the lath to the floor. What I really wanted was a medium consistency product that could be injected in the crevices and used to reattach the keys. Boy, was I naïve about how tedious this would be AND about how long it would take. I reattached a bunch of keys on one section of one wall, tried to insert glue where there were gaps between the lath and plaster in a small area. Then I gave up. It would have taken hours and hours to really cover the walls. I have no idea if the newly glued keys will hold or if the fills in the gaps will help. But I tried! I am happy that the sheet rock will be going up over those exposed areas this week so I wonâÂÂt feel like I am supposed to keep trying. Again, thanks for the suggestions!

Mini update: Everything was going along swimmingly and then the counter people truck broke down. I didn't get my counter installed on Tuesday (moved to saturday) and not getting my appliances today (moved to next tuesday). At least the handles came and they are lovely, DH didn't like the two handles on the 33" drawer cabinets so I returned the 5" ones and got more of the 6" ones for those cabinets. Ameroc Kane in ORB. The hood company received the damaged hood and working on a replacement. I hate this part of the remodel, just waiting for the last big stuff. GC is doing little things here and there like finishing up the closet and molding - he rescued the original crown, put up original molding from the door opening around the window and cut down some recovered molding to put around the door (we needed an extra 2") so it looks like it belongs. But he can't do the backsplash or painting since I have no counters to pick stuff out. GRR!! House is so dusty and I just want to be done already so I can move on to finish other things before this baby comes and have the house cleaned from top to bottom. Oh well, it can always be worse.

In only one municipality I've built in, were longer-lived stainless ties required. Otherwise there were no requirements re ties. If the mason were supplying ties, count on the cheapest and flimsiest available. In the house we're currently living in, the masons used nails to tie the brick to the structural block. Where the back of the block is visible in the garage, around the end of each nail a quarter sized section of block has fallen off as the nail rusted. The house will be demolished by the next buyer, so there's no concern.
