HU-914370505, I've been gone all day, and just found your questions. Even though you've had lots of great suggestions since then, I'll try to answer. In the first alternative you posted, the trash and dishwasher couldn't be open at the same time - we find that a little concerning thoughts? It depends on the model of your DW and the length of the door--they range from about 25" to 27" when fully open, so if the aisle is 40" counter-to-counter, then you have a couple more inches cabinet-to-cabinet. If the DW door is 25" from the cabinet face, then you could open the trash pull-out up to 17" (or 15" if the DW door is 27"), which should be enough to scrape a plate. Or scrape into a bowl, and empty into the trash when the DW door is closed. Recyclables in the back bin would also have to wait until the DW door is closed. But even a couple of inches added to that aisle would help, if you can spare them from the dining area. ... what are your thoughts on our isle widths? Although I wouldn't build narrow aisles into a new house, when I remodeled the kitchen in my old house I had to settle for 40" to 42" work aisles, and believe it or not, only 36" behind bench seating at the island. The island has a 16" seating overhang, which helps, and there are shallow (10"deep) uppers on the cabinet run behind the seating, so plenty of shoulder space for someone passing behind the bench. We are all tall and thin, so no one has trouble walking behind someone seated at the island. My DW opens into a long aisle, similar to the second plan I posted, and the range is similarly overlapped by the island, so I have 'step back' space in the long aisle. The fridge is also overlapped by half, so there is space to open the door fully and bend over far enough to rummage for that jar of olives that got shoved to the back. It works for us, and there are often three adults and two kids in the kitchen, just before a meal is served. When I yell, "Oven door is open!" everyone (even the 2yr old) knows to stay clear. Although buehl posted a well thought out plan (as always :), I like the range on the back wall for several reasons. 1) Venting will be easier, 2) the range/hood makes a nicer focal point than the fridge, and 3) on the short wall, the fridge is a couple of steps closer to the DR. The second plan I posted above is still in my desktop shortcuts--I'll post it again so you don't have to scroll up: Note: If you need more symmetry in the upper cabinets, you could move the window and sink closer to the range, and make the upper to the right of the sink wider, but that would leave a narrow slot to the right of the DW. Another option would be to void the corner, and put a wider drawer base to the left of the range, but that would leave less space between the range and sink. You just need to think through prepping a meal, to decide which option is better for your family. Good luck!

Thanks all for the good feedback! @Pam AWe don't bake as much as we used to. Mostly roasting veggies and potatoes. We do want to do stir frying/wok cooking, which is why a big goal of the remodel was to move the stove from the island (where it currently sits) to the wall, so we can externally vent a powerful range. (We purchased a BlueStar RNB366BV2NG!) @mama goose_gw zn6OHYes it is a remodel, so moving the pantry is probably out of the scope of the remodel. How much clearance do you think is enough? We were targeting 42 for work aisles, and ~39-40 where people would just be sitting. Although we do note in the floor plan that only part of 1 seat has a wall behind it, the rest of the island that has seating is open to the living room/breakfast room. Also thanks, we did check and most all the slabs of the styles we are looking at run 120-130". Also, we planned 40 because we tried having someone sit at a bar with 40" clearance and it seemed OK clearance to still have someone walk behind them. @Beth H.Right now there is about ~41 inches between the wall oven and fridge? The oven door is 27". So we did try, with 13 inch gap on open we can stand in front of it and open, but if we want to crouch down next to it, looks like it would take about 48 inches of clearance between the wall oven to the fridge. How much do you think is a good amount if the door is 27"? If we wanted 48" of clearance, we could just shrink the cabinets next to the fridge, and move the fridge down that wall by 8-12" (depending how much we needed/wanted). On the 2 dishwashers. We realize it is a bit extra, but from experience at our current place, we have to run a new load of dishes almost every other day (usually 3 times a week) since we eat most dinners at home, and meal prep so have dishes from lunches and breakfast. We're also both out from 9AM-8PM M-F, and most days have to WFH some after dinner before bed, so we end up having dishes pile up in the sink as we have not had the time/energy to unload the previous load from the dishwasher. So we really wanted 2 dishwashers to have a "ring buffer" where we unload 1 clean one in use as we fill the other 1 with dirties, to avoid having the build up in the sink and to speed up the process of doing dishes. @lopipopiThe double trash/recycle pullout right now is on the end of the island directly across from the sink. @Chris T Thats kind of what we have in the plan now? The back row has 1 36" full depth lower. And the other 2 36" ones are half depth. So there is a 12" overhang on 2/3 of the back side, and on the shallow end facing the breakfast room. IMO a little color would go a long way. Why not some colored stools . I agree wait to decide backsplash until everything is installed and BTW that includes waiting to decide wall color if possible. I think the gray island will not be a good idea since chances are it will not work with the gray floor. If after all the white is in you decide down the road to change the color I have had Ikea cabinets painted many times for clients. I love grays so to me it is neutral but 90% of my clients don’t like gray so I use a soft gray / green for walls to still be really neutral but not gray. I do not love the backsplash at all with that counter in fact I might be tempted to use the counter for the backsplash too and what would look awesome is if they could match the pattern so it would loook like you just folded the counter up on the wall. I also would like to see bar pulls in proprtion to the cabinet size and if you want brass that should be okay . When you order the cabinets get the deep drawer wide cabinets you will use for pots and pans to have the shallow drawer at the top and use that for gadgets with drawer organizers much nicer that gadgets sitting on the counter. Is there way to post your actual layout just for use to have peek and maybe help if we notice something that could be better. I have been designing Ikea kitchens for 20+ yrs.
