light fixture help needed

House we bought has these lights everywhere. Anyone know if there are other options that use the same connecting mechanism. I really do not want to hire an electrician.

I need to see the actul way it is wired but where do you live is more to the question.Since that does not appear to be NA.

Habitat for Humanity ReStores will generally accept light fixtures. There maybe other places you can donate fixtures in your area. For example, Community Forklift in Maryland. No, they won't install new fixtures for you. Replacing light fixtures is generally a pretty easy thing that you can do.

By the way, I have 9ft sloped ceiling in the dining room/living room space. 9 ft in entry way. Only 8 ft in kitchen and living room (hence why we went with recessed only). Kitchen island is 10 ft long but only 30 inches wide so we can’t go too wide on the light but will need 3 lights to cover the long space. Thanks all in advance for reading my long winded post.

Any of the above would look great. My fav is Beverly’s first one, ‘50’s diner light: You could also do a flush mount. Totally appropriate for that era and very retro-looking. Is your trim brown wood in other spaces? Not sure if one room with painted trim will work with spaces that are nearby. Or is the kitchen the outlier? There has to be a perfect warm white for your kitchen. Have you looked at BM Swiss Coffee? It has a beige (coffee) undertone as opposed to yellow or pink. Off white sounds right for this space with your cabinets, but nothing in the gray family or it will all get kind of dreary. I’m sure a Pro will correct me if I’m mistaken.

those were probably the new retro fit for the old-style square cans depending on when your house was built.

You will not find a different cover to fit and are stuck with the existing cloud type. The wiring of the fixture has nothing to do with it, it is the housing within the ceiling. You would need an electrician to install and connect either:

- a new recessed lumenaire, after removing the existing housing, which requires some drywall patchwork;

- a new ceiling box for a surface mount fixture, after removing the existing housing, which requires some drywall patchwork;

- an LED surface mount fixture large enough to cover the existing housing (or jerry-rig a coverplate), connected via an Edison adapter ===> could be DIY then.
