Shower valve is tilted, is it okay?
Hi, all. I just hired a contractor to remodel my bathroom. After the contractor installed the valve, I found that it is not perpendicular to the wall. It is tiled to the left. I asked the contractor have it fixed but my requested was ignored and the work keep going on and now tile backer board is installed.
Is this kind of work clumsy or am I too picky?
If it happens to you, would accept this tilted valve and let them go ahead to finish the remodel?

Comments (4)My brother in Newport Beach just did this with his bathroom reno and it's terrific. Wish I'd thought of it sooner. I'm with you, I hate sliders. The track just gets gunky and sticks, and is unpleasant. Shower curtain, good. FYI-we just installed a Panasonic Whisper Green fan/light unit in a bathroom (also S.CA) that's never had an issue with mold and mildew. Comments (28)Bob, compression fittings are allowed for installing shower valves. Moen even has a video showing exactly how to do it. Shark bites are allowed too. .....In the U.S. The fact that something is or isn't allowed in the colonies doesn't really concern Mr. Nobel. If you aren't versed in what's acceptable in his locale , you should say so and take a pass at dispensing advice especially if you fundamentally disagree with the local custom. You may not like people who drive in the left , but have to accept it in places answering to the Crown. geoffrey, im sure you mean well - but a vapor barrier doesn't really enter into the equation since Matt has made no mention of a steam generator. Waterproofing on the other hand is part if the conversation - but that's different than vapor management. Now, value , and what you might do in your own home certainly have a place in this conversation (* sort of) but don't force YOUR bias onto someone else under the guise of "it's not to code" or "it's only for hacks" or "it's too expensive, or you can do it cheaper". * what you'd do in the States really doesn't matter a hill of beans in London . Comments (6)If you want quick and easy, replace the cartridge. You can change the cartridge in 10 minutes. Changing the valve? Open up the wall, cut the copper, take out the old, after three or four tries you'll fit in the new, then resolder without lighting the framing on fire, then having to resolder one joint because of the leak, then realizing you cooked an o-ring when you overheated the valve body when soldering, then... The contractor has installed the dennshield as tile backer board ( I request dennshield instead of cement board in order to fulfill fire rating)
The below picture shows the whole view:
Joseph asked me if the walls are right angle. I tried it with a tile and could see that "no".
I compare the depth of the both side of the black plastic plate of the valve.
I put a 1/2 inch drywall next to the valve to simulate the condition after tile.
The shower outlet below the valve is tilted to the right while the valve itself tilted to the left.
Also, the grey denshield installed on the shower head side does not flush with the existing drywall on the top.
One more thing, I could feel a nail lying underneath the waterproof liner of the shower pan. I asked if the nail will puncture the liner in the future, the contractor said no, as there will be mortar on top of the liner and the mortar will shape into the nail and there will be no pressure which make the nail puncture the liner.
