Restoration Hardware table refinish

Help! I’m doing a complete renovation of my dining room. I have a RH 120” fixed trestle table in dark brown. I need it refinished to a black stain. Has anyone done this successfully? It would be a shame to sell it and buy a new table when it is still what I’m looking for just the wrong color. Any advise would be wonderful.

Is the top solid wood or veneer that will IMO have a huge impact on how you refinish it.

I would look at General Finishes Gel stains that do not require sanding.

Has anyone bought a Restoration Hardware Vintage oval table or a Curations limited Maison table. I would love to see real photos to see the colors before making my choice. I am trying to decide between the grey Maison table and the weathered oak Restoration Hardware table. Hi, random question. I saw that you have the RH trestle table in salvaged brown. Did you need to add a finish for protection or use some sort of tung oil, etc. to prevent any issues with spills? Everything I’ve read from people are those finding ways to protect the natural unfinished version of this table, but I haven’t found anyone saying you need to do this for the stained versions of it. I just wanted to be 100% before I start using it. (It arrived this Saturday). I’m actually getting the Salvaged brown as well and was just curious if you had to do anything for protecting the surface or not? Thank you so much. I know this was a very old thread.

Buy five or ten cans of BriWax. Heat a canfull in a pan, and slather it on with a paint brush every night before you go to bed and buff off . This is not what the directions will tell you, it's what an antique dealer used to to do to the Irish pine in her shop. Do it until no more will absorb. Comes clear or brown tints. the table will still be rough, but it will not look so "dry" Do it .........whenever. You can't hurt the table. PS...... "warm and memorable family meals" have zero to do with the table top. Only the folks and the conversation AROUND it. It's just as "dry" brand new btw.............all you needed to do was google: ) "with a reclaimed wood top repurposed from 100-year-old solid elm doors". Meaning the door was solid, and this a shaved off slice of the door, slapped on fiber board. Bet me on that, hon. In a word, junk.

I've read that the modern masters dead Flat may only be for painted surfaces and also that it isn't very protective. Also looking at ordering. Researching Monocoat and 100% pure tongue oil and General Finishes flat. Helpful reading https://julieblanner.com/restoration-hardware-table-nightmare/

Why do you need it refinished to a black stain? It looks nearly black on my screen. Certainly looks fabulous as is. Not sure I'd go to the trouble (and risk) of refinishing it a shade or two darker. In what way are you completely renovating your dining room?

Use Dixie Bell black gel stain. It's easy and won't make a mess.

The room is black and white. My ceiling is tricorn black. The room looks weird with a brown table. It’s just not the look I’m going for.

The tabletop from underneath appears to be solid wood with wire brush marks (which I hate so I wouldn’t mind them being sanded off)

Of course it could just be painted black... Most of the RH furniture is veneer, so refinishing could be tricky as all the current factory applied finish has to come off to stain it darker. If you can get a refinishing specialist to come to your house they may be able to tell you if it is even possible.
