Front door - Craftsman trim or not with a stone entry?
Comments (7)LV, I bet you didn't plan on getting an education in architectural styles when you asked your question did you :) Anyway, in response to your question. It sounds like you have a specific style that you like and I do not think the stone around the door is going to achieve the look you are going for. I think I would stick with the other option that you listed at the end of your post: I'm also considering dropping the stone here to shorter wainscot height (same as garage and elsewhere), and doing siding above that and around the door, so that the white craftsman door trim would be siding instead of stone. Here's an example I found that achieves the look you described in the text above: http://luxurydecor.org/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/220817187959365876.jpg I would keep the rock at the same level as the rest of the house. I think you'll end up with a far better look. Here's an example I found of a house with both trim and rock around the door. http://www.livingandlearningwithluisa.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/Craftsman-Cottage-Home-Exterior-1024x681.jpg It's not a craftsman door like your's but at least it may give you some idea of the look of rock and trim around the door way. In the end it really comes down to what you like. We are building as well and if you are like us you've been pinning ideas for at least a couple of years. As new options come up I am having to ask myself "will this change the look of our house in such a way that it no longer has the aspects that drew us to it to begin with" I hope I've been some help. Best of luck....See MoreMCM ranch --- keep exterior wrought iron columns or replace?
Comments (39)Actually it's been awhile since I started this posting. I got new windows, they are taupe. It blends with the area painted underneath the window. I've planted native shrubs and perennials in the front garden - it gives a more ''natural'' look, with various green groundcovers instead of mulch. I'm a fan of native plants. Comments (44)Painter is making progress! Sharing a photo... So far he has painted the inside of the upper and lower cabinets the same cream as the walls and painted the lower cabinet boxes an intense blue (Starry Night by BM in high gloss). The door and windows are the same as the rest of the trim, Valspar's Swiss Coffee in semigloss, except for the sashes which are a glossy black. The uppers will be stained and varnished after I have replacement doors made at some point in the future. The painter will also do the lower (MDF replacement) cabinet doors in the blue. Looking forward to seeing how it looks when done! Right now I am thinking that it would have been better to strip the windows and doors, but it's too much work at the moment, so that'll have to wait for another year....See MoreReplace shutters?
Comments (8)Thank you misecretary! I don't care for that look-so now I know! Can you tell me how you mocked up that visual? I would really like to be able to do that too. What app do you use?...See MoreDiana Bier Interiors, LLC
