Comments (2)That is normal. Squashes often put out male flowers for some time, before the female flowers appear. Chances are, if you examine the ends of the vines closely, the female flowers are already beginning to develop. Just give them time....See MoreWhat's causing my Black Knight Buddleia to Wilt?
Comments (5)I live in zone 9 and mine was planted on a south facing slope 2 yrs ago. In my experience they love water and would be very hard to overwater in our dry hot summer. In my opinion it is because it cannot hold enough water on the slope. The drainage is superb: rocky soil, steep incline, south facing. I have built a small basin out about 2 feet, filled it with mulch, and do supplemental watering. That was last year during the summer. We will see if it has rooted enough this year to make it through without supplemental watering, as the slope is irrigated all year when it is not raining. I believe that in the height of summer, it will need more water. Also, I keep it pinched back very severely so that I do not get lots of long bare branches and dieback due to the heat. Good luck....See MoreWhat is causing this effect on my butternut squash?
Comments (0)Hi there. I can't identify what is happening on the foliage of my butternut squash. In the first pic, there is a distinct dimpling and discoloration on the leaves. These are leaves on the lower part of the plant. Over the past few weeks the lower leaves have slowly yellowed, at which point I would remove them. The second pic shows the plant's newest growth before it started running. Although only 1 flower has opened, all buds look very healthy. I started spraying with a Safer (I think) combination fungicide/insecticide and have done so every week for the past 3 weeks. I've had squash vine borers but see no evidence of frass, etc. None of my other squashes look this way. I'll appreciate your help in figuring this out. Maureen...See MoreWhy my Kabocha Plants Are Wilting?
Comments (1)As long as they are perking up at night, I think it's normal. If they wilt and stay wilted and start turning yellow, it could be squash borers. But since they look better at night I think you're fine. My patch does this too....See Morecatherinet (5IN)
