African Violet Help

I was inspecting my African violet, and I noticed there were a few dead leaves at the very base of the plant. I, of course, pulled them off like I would the dead, ugly parts of any plant. I was surprised to find, however, that the leaves were very soft and limp, completely unlike normal deadness which is dry and crispy. I immediately suspected that the plant might have rot, but upon inspecting and feeling the base, everything seemed fine. I can feel no soft spots and the other leaves seem normal and healthy. Since the rest of the plant looks so good, I don't think I've overwatered it, at least not majorly. This is my first African violet, so I don't know if this is considered normal or not.
