Cottage-style kitchen - countertop & backsplash ideas
Comments (16)Fori is dead on about choosing later on since it is not part of a reno someone else is doing for you and needing an answer right this minute. Try and search shelayne's low backsplash. I think something like that in a light bone or beige color would let the red pop and also let you play with walls down the road for new looks. I think that letting the bs, counters and cabs be a more monotone look would fit the style while accessorizing to add color and versatility. I love how hers is simple, yet interesting and would totally fit a simple cottage look. If you want to make it more fancy, do something like her in crackle, but I bet that more than doubles the cost......See MoreLooking for backsplash ideas
Comments (27)You can love teal today and get tired of it in 5 years. You don't want to have the desire to change something that fixed in 5 years. Save the teal accents for things that can be easily brought in and changed later. Fun accents will bring a smile to your face just as readily. Since your counter is fairly busy you really need to rest your eye a bit by going with a solid color backsplash. I'd go light to contrast the cabinets and so that the pops of teal accents you place against it really shine. I think an updated subway tile in a non- traditional size such as 2x6 or 4x8 would give you the slightly offbeat look you want. You probably just need to match the color to one of the lighter tones in your counter material. Bring some pieces home and you'll find the one that gives your eye the most pleasure. Be sure you have a nice teal accent item so you can't see how it plays into the mix....See MoreWhich backsplash do you like? Other ideas for contemporary look?
Comments (5)I like the green and the cream coloured tiles, but not the grey tiles from option A. Option B is far too dark for my taste. I think I would try to find a backsplash that is lighter than your floor and cabinets. Darkest colour in the 'splash no darker than the doors. I do like the glass-stone combination, that does read modern to me. HTH, Petra...See Morelooking for back splash ideas
Comments (8)Sorry for the delayed response - I saw online one of our neighbors a few houses down has a small octagon back splash - it is grayish / cream in color like natural stone. Looked pretty nice from what I could see - would something like that work with my current colors? I like the wall color, but i'm always afraid of clashing between the tan granite and the gray walls. I'd also eventually like to rip out the linoleum flooring and either re-finish the hard wood floor underneath or lay down tile - so either way i'm trying to look long-term. Something that will work with the current floor, and future (wood or tile)....See MoreDave Smith
