Can't Decide on Wall Paint Color - Help! (PICS)
Comments (7)suzannesl: Thank you so much for your reply and kind words, Suzanne! I really appreciate it! You have it exactly right, 1-4 are the potential swatches that are taped up (minus the possible SW colors that I don't have swatches for) and A-D are the colors in adjoining rooms. I totally see your point about judging the colors from the little swatches and a computer monitor (I wish I could have you all visit our kitchen, lol!). Painting actual swatches on the wall would be best. I was hoping to narrow the choices down a bit - if possible (for example, if it turns out that Fernwood Green only looks good with a true white, or Guilford Green looks terrible against a pale yellow like Ambiance, that kind of thing). I suppose someone would really need the fan decks to make that judgement though. =/ Maybe I should just buy all 6 colors to test? (Hope DH isn't reading this, lol!) Here is the countertop story - We're doing our kitchen on a budget. I wanted soapstone (can't afford it now), so we got Ikea birch butcherblock countertops, stained them black with india ink (thanks to Brickmanhouse!), and finished them with satin PolyWhey. We don't expect them to last forever, but hope they can give us a few years until I can get the soapstone that I've been drooling over. (And, they can always be refinished if they get too beat up.) singingmicki: Thanks for your vote! I will also look into Ethereal Mood!...See MoreHelp. Can’t decide on paint color for new Kitchen/Living room
Comments (0)We Recently transformed our kitchen in our raised ranch home. Took out a small wall. Kitchen is now open to living room/great room. We have natural cherry shaker cabinets & doors now. I have always loved natural cherry wood. Granite counters. I do Love what we have so far!! I thought I wanted to go for gray paint throughout: living room, entry, & hallway. Blue/Gray with a accent red wall. But not sure I’m loving it now looking at some of my picks so far. My husband & I disagree on color likes for the most part. I don’t like pastels, especially pink tones. And won’t do white. Recommendations welcome. Please and thank you....See MoreHelp decide colors for house makeover. Painters coming NEXT week!
Comments (54)Please do not apologize for all the posts parker_31! They are so helpful!!! Of the paint samples I tried on poster board, we like SW Oyster Bay and Magnetic Gray the best --- but I'm not sure if either are exactly right. I see what you, raee_gw zone 5b-6a Ohio, are saying about the trim not necessarily being white because it's not very prominent. However, that is one thing we originally thought made our house more interesting :) since we don't have brick or stone. If we go with a more monotone scheme, I definitely like going lighter with trim... Oh man, all these suggestions are great! Still think I might keep the white triangle which is a big switch for me (I just don't know!) :)...See MorePlease help decide! Can’t choose anything!
Comments (123)alwaysundecided - I'd love to post pix but I'm a pretty private person (sorry). Like yourself, I like certain things (that may not always mesh together), and I buy them and then play around (often moving them from place to place/room to room), until I have an 'aha' moment. I think you are doing great on your own, and the only thing you are missing is 'self confidence'. Remember, this is YOUR space and no one knows your taste (or has to live with it), other than you and whomever lives with you. We can all share with you our taste/suggestions/etc., but ultimately you are the decision maker. Having said all that, I personally think having night stand (regardless of it being mirrored or not), with a mirror in the back, no longer leaves room for a lamp - too crowded. As well, I think the whole purpose of a night stand is to place things on top of them, and if you have a lamp there it takes away from useable space. Have you considered/thought about small hanging chandeliers placed directly above the nightstands? Low enough so that you can see some of the crystal reflections in the mirror, but not too low that it takes away from the visibility of the mirror?...See Morecat_ky
