Any thoughts on these backsplash options?
Comments (118)Your kitchen is beautiful and absolutely does not need another focal point! I know a lot of ppl liked the (for lack of better description) "flower" tile you have in above post but i think pattern AND two different colors? just too much. i definitely think you should have some color variation but something tone on tone... or just less of a jump. i like the diamond crushed glass ones a lot but maybe if we take out the reddish brown and replace it with a grayish color to tie in the marble... i think u really have to be careful with that marble- it is soo pretty but it has lots of movement... i love the color variation in the tiles that a2gemini posted- i dont know if that color would work with the marble... but i think u should stay within that realm of variation... i dont no if this is ur taste or if the colors would match up well but i looove pipdogs backsplash and im thinking of it because for some reason even tho its gray it seems warm to me. heres a link Here is a link that might be useful: pips kitchen...See MoreBacksplash is back (picture heavy, hold on to your servers)
Comments (72)I'm a late looker, too. I have a similar granite and have had cabinet woes since the get go. I LOVE your cabinets! What are they? As for 'what' looks good with a kitchen like ours. After months of having tile propped up in my kitchen, over 5 years ago I went with a travertine subway tile and haven't tired of it yet. Without going through my 'drama' of my kitchen, my cabinets have changed colors multiple times. Always intended for them to be a creamy white with a glaze, but it took two years, four paint jobs, a lawsuit, learned skills and patience, along with a lot of Bacardi rum to get what I wanted. With the shiny granite and stainless the eyes have a place to 'rest' when it meets the travertine. I so wanted to use a handmade WZ tile, but it just didn't look right. Posting photos from a few years back, when the kitchen was being modified from a cabinet fiasco! Nothing is as was designed. (Another story...) The kitchen I did not order. Focal point backsplash bought off eBay After several paint jobs, restripping THREE professional paint job$, I repainted and glazed cabinets myself. Sorry my range is not clean in this photo! We had just put it back in it's pocket. I really do need to do a finished kitchen photo. Close up of dry grout in tile. AFTER Modifications of drawers, fronts, grout glaze, painting, etc... Here is a link that might be useful: Progress photos and how I darkened the grout with glaze. Shiny grout in photos was WET with sealer. It dried to a matte finish....See MoreHelp with backsplash .. Comments (26)Eam I think I am leaning toward the single colored tile, but I'll order samples and see how it looks in person. Romy I love how crackle looks in every kitchen I see it in. If I see JUST a picture of the tile I'm a little turned off by it, but in the big picture it really just works. My marble is Alabama White, which is similar to your Danby in terms of hardness and color. Most of the Slabs I saw were whiter than mine. I think the biggest difference is the AW has some more linear streaks (I prefer the light swirls, but at $75 a square foot I'm really happy with it). I shouldn't have any issues finding AW tiles, my countertop fabricators do all things tile and had AW in subways and mosaics. That's also another option. I have a feeling I will have a similar experience with the gray tile looking better. The pewter chicken butter dish I have looks amazing next to my counters. OB2B Ahhh. There you are with the mock ups!!! I surprisingly love how the gray looks, unfortunately I am one of those people negatively affected by gray. :(. I love how it looks, though, so I'm still going to consider it! Could I trouble you to do a white subway with beige grout? :D Mayflowers those are gorgeous, and I like the 4x4 tiles... What color do you think they would work in in my space? Maven thank you!! Herringbone is off the table for me as this will be a DIY installation (Lord help me), but I can't wait to see it in your kitchen! When is your expected completion date. Sorry it took so long to respond, we've been super busy lately!!...See MorePut me out of my misery- what color backsplash?
Comments (38)So you have a kitchen with very little light and are going with a brighter white and white tile with a light countertop. "The kitchen gets minimal natural light so the brighter the better." Has anyone ever explained how white works. White has very little color and looks white vs gray or black because it is reflecting lots of light. If you paint the inside of your closet white and step inside, turn off the light and close the door it doesn't look light and bright. When you have low light conditions white has nothing to reflect. This is when you should have rich wood tones or mid toned colors that can hold their beautiful with or without lots of light. It snowed here recently, so I just went out front and took two pictures. The snow isn't so pretty where the sun isn't reflecting off the snow. White on white kitchens look beautiful when they are flooded with natural daylight, or you have a lot of lights turned on. They all look beautiful in professional photo shoots, but most of us don't have studio lights in our homes....See MoreMrs Pete
