Painted trim white! Now I regret it!

Hello! I'm a new homeowner and my house has would trim everywhere! The living room trim is different than the kitchen trim. And the trim up stairs seems to match the living room. I watch way too much HGTV, YouTube diyers and use pinterest. So all I was thinking is white! I got the walls in the living room painted grey and the trim painted white, but Im leaving the kitchen trim alone (and you'll understand why when I post pics). Now I feel like the living room doesn't match anywhere else in the house and I don't think it flows to the kitchen well, but I did paint the kitchen AIabaster ( sherwin). I think I made a huge mistake. What do you all think??? Help?!

The white trim looks great. It isn't like it was high quality antique stained trim, which you wouldn't want to paint. What I don't love is the gray wall paint with your floor color.

Fun, I used epoxy grout in the bath surround. Yes it needs more cleaning to remove, but not the horror stories I've read. I did use a tile sealer on the top of tile before grouting and often wonder if this made a difference. As with all reviews you are going to read the rough adventures. I can't remember if those who had problems were new at grouting or the type of epoxy used. The process and manufacturer is never really mentioned. Why not try it on a small board? I probably used this on a couple of square feet at a time and cleaned off as I went. My spacing is 1/4". It looks great, smooth and clean. Is as hard as regular grout, not sure why others had an issue with it staying soft. And I used a premix, which many said to stay away from. I haven't had to do anything with mine for 5 years. Will add that it looks a bit different than normal grout, but you would have to look close. Wipes down right along with tile whenever wanted. It definitely seals between the tile. Take a chance and sample it before the big job. They have small containers. Also, even though this worked for me and I would do it again, there is always the norm of wanting what has always been. Standard grout can still be the norm for many.

I think you can't go wrong with the off white and white together. if that's what you love and are drawn to, I almost think you maybe disappointed if you dont do it. I love the pics you show and love the idea of the blue too. I get it, it's a big decision and you don't want to be disappointed.

Hi edelweiss- I am not sure how the wood lowers and white uppers will look to you 10 years down the line when it isn't so in style. Have you thought about doing all the uppers and lowers the same wood, with maybe two uppers glass? You could frost the glass or even just put an inexpensive peel-on film over the glass if you don't want the contents easily visualized. Then you could paint the island whatever color you want. Either white, or even that red that you like. With two different color cabinetry, (on the periphery and the island) I would not have a different type of counter top on the island, unless it were to be butcher block. I would also not get a red range top. Your tastes may change and a range top is very expensive to replace. Or you may need replacement parts, and red may not be available. Or you may sell, and red is very taste specific, and that may be a deal breaker.

Should I paint the trim a white-white color to match the trim on the doors? Yes. Because color hierarchy. When you use color to group like elements together, you're color-coding the environment. It makes the space easier to understand consciously and subconsciously. In other words, the envelope of the space is cohesive, congruous - it makes sense. Some would call this a "design rule" and maybe they're right. If they are, then this is one color design rule I prefer not to break even if it's well understood.

The floor makes the gray look green. Gray can be tricky if you don’t pay attention to the undertones.

The white trim looks very nice.

In person the grey doesn't look green, could be the lighting. The is Repose grey (Sherwin Williams) I do believe it has some warm undertones

I like the white trim, and I like the Repose as well. We have Repose in aome rooms and i don’t like it as much.

White trim looks a hundred thousand times better! The wood finish trim was too skimpy to be called architectural and it looked cheap. If it was good wood trim you would want it to stand out, looks better now that it blends in.

Agree the white trim updates the look. The wood trim helped to tie the woods floors into the whole overall look. Sometimes you have to pick your battles.

You just need a pretty area rug to bring it together! The white trim looks pretty.
