need advice on foundation and shutter color
Comments (11)Alyssa, it's a very cute house. I'm not a pro but could see the foundation the gray Jerome mentioned or the same color as the siding. Will there be more landscaping that will cover much of it? For me, the only windows suitable for shutters are the smaller ones. The other one in front is much too large. Each shutter should be half the window's width whether functional or decorative. FWIW, this might be helpful when it comes to the shutters. https://www.lifeofanarchitect.com/residential-architecture-101-shutters/...See MoreShutter Color Dilemma on the House of too Many Browns
Comments (7)Remove the shutters, problem solved. Can the trim around the windows be painted? Is there any? Hard to tell from the photo. The brown of the column is quite dominating, would you consider painting it? In your case, I would focus on getting a consistent look at the windows (the curtains at the window to the left of the door are brown on one side and white on the other?) Am I seeing that right? And landscaping (even though you’re selling) those shrubs don’t enhance your cute entry. Add stylish house numbers to the column and it’ll look great. Comments (12)Your house is a raised ranch masquerading as a southern plantation home. I would beef up the columns, paint them ( do a sheen finish) and the clapboard white (B.M. has an exterior paint called Soft Gloss). Paint the two shutters to the right of the front door black. Don't paint the front entry and storm black...too much like the shutters. Doors are abutting the brick, so do them in white as well. Shutters are an architectural item, not a decoration, so you want to use them appropriately. The only two windows that can. have shutters are the two singles to the right of the front door. Don't put them on the more modern style windows. They call attention to them. If the house were mine, I would paint everything white and that includes the brick, and the double front door brown. Like this with a light blue porch ceiling and definitely railings between the columns to soften the front with a real porch effect....See MoreHelp - need color advice for shutters/front door.
Comments (3)Personally, I like either the navy bluish color for the shutters or black, they would both look great. The gray on the shutters makes for a less classy, intentional look in my opinion. For the front door, I would do a pop of color, like a yellow, or match the shutters....See Morecat_ky
