cove lighting LED strip light selection

I'm looking at led strip lights to install for cove lighting.

The original set I was loot at isn't compatible with the lutron caseta switches that I'm installing in the home.

They were recommended for the covering because it's supposed to help with even light distribution, but I'm wondering if this is actually needed or if I can just purchase naked LED light strips and have them sitting up in the cove.

Should I have some type of fixture/cover to help with light distribution or keep them clean?

For example, Kelvix (https://kelvix.com/) has a ton of housing options for their strip lights. Adds to the cost and i'm not sure it's worth the spend.
