Help! I think I have etching on my Tumbled Marble Tile Shower
Comments (2)Acidic products will etch marble. First go through what you use in the shower. Does your husband shave in the shower? Check his products also. Buy a cleaner for marble and have it for your cleaning service. Though, I would think they would know how to clean marble. But maybe not. Watch out for chlorine bleach, while it is basic and not acidic, it will mess with the color of your grout. Grout will absorb water, it's not water proof, but it should dry out also. Is your darker grout on the floor? Is is possible that whoever built your shower did not built a proper pre-slope? Though, I think different methods are used in different parts of the country, but the shower under the tile should slope towards the drain. Pictures will help once you get them loaded. Comments (5)The cement board fastened 8" requires all board edges to be reinforced with alkali resistant mesh and embedded in thinset. Now you can apply liquid or sheet membrane waterproofing. If sheet membranes are selected you can use it to substitute mesh tape. To simplify. You should be able to shower without any tile installed. The tile is only cosmetic. Which ever product is selected follow the manufacturers instructions. They all have a tech support line and you should use it. Your present contractor does not have the knowledge to be installing showers if he believes the cement board alone is waterproof. Red Guard, Laticrete hydraban are usually readily available liquid applied systems. Comments (4)So I would look at getting a really nice bath rug, bath towels and robe (not cheap ones). Add a teak bench that could go under the window to house lotions etc. Add a faux Roman shade mounted at the ceiling that just covers the edge of the window so as not to block the light. Add a ledge plant in the window and some wicker bottles (nothing breakable to the top of the towel bar) for some texture....See More"How to" HELP! I need to replace my exterior patio door.
Comments (12)This sounds to me like 4 separate jobs Remove and dispose of existing door, insulate and sheath opening $150 Install new door and lockset $250 Install new exterior trim and siding, cutting back existing to weave in matching product $300 Install drywall, tape, 3 coats of mud, prime and finish coat entire wall with matching paint $300 In each case, you would have a difficult time finding someone to do a high quality job for the amount shown, so a package deal at $1,000 is not high. Especially because now you don't have anyone pointing fingers at the other guys to justify questionable results. You have only one person responsible for making it appear that door opening has not been altered. Now, yes, this could be a DIY job but you probably need to spend some money on proper tools. Some people use the cost of hiring out the job to justify the price of additional or upgraded tools (like me!). You probably don't have the six foot level and may need to buy or upgrade a miter saw for the trim work....See Moredani_m08
