If you frequent enough places selling incense sooner or later you are bound to find it sold as an incense. Myrrh is a resin with a distinctive, strong odor. I like it, but I don't find it the easiest incense to be around for extended periods. After about five minutes something in the smoke begins to make my throat feel dried out & scratchy in a way most incense does not. I have only once smelled the blossom of one of the Austin roses said to have a "myrrh" scent (unfortunately I don't anymore remember which rose it was). I noticed the scent was distinctive, with a scent a bit weightier than most roses somehow, but I had to use my imagination to detect a resemblance to myrrh.

They are very different roses. Magnificent Perfume is like SDLM on steroids. Similar flowers in terms of shape and color, but much bigger and perfume is wonderful and stronger than SDLM. BS resistance is nothing special, again similar to SDLM it requires spraying. Good repeat, vigorous and blooms a lot. I gave my MP after 6 years in my garden, it was 6x5 feet, upright bushy growth and the only reason I don't grow it anymore is my conversion to a no spray garden. Do you like myrrh fragrance? I ask because Fragrant Masterpiece has the best myrrh fragrance I ever experienced. Similar, but much stronger than fragrance of Constance Spry. This rose has wonderful heavy blooms of exceptional quality. It has big spring flush and only moderate repeat. It probably could repeat better if you grow it as a climber. It throws long canes, that I was cutting shorter to maintain it as a bush. Canes are quite flexible. It could be my approach of cutting it back all the time restrained its repeat. Disease (BS) resistance is similar to MP. It needs spraying and I gave it away after 6 years in my garden, for the same reason as MP. Both are good roses, if you are spraying. I would never be w/o them if my climate would be a little more forgiving. OLga

Thank you very much for your interesting suggestions. I will remember to look out for these roses this summer when I visit gardens and nurseries with big collections of modern roses. Interesting to see the parentage of some of these roses. Curlydoc - I really like the fragrance of Peace too - not strong but delicate. Interesting to see that it gets more pink hues in intense sun/or heat.
