Mine will be the Jenn Air floating black glass FD. The cabinet maker is making the cabinet 36". I too think the 38+ he has planned for your surround is too big, even if you were to recess the whole fridge into the space. The specs says the width of the fridge cab is the 35 5/8". It also says the width of the door with hinge & trim is 36 1/2". I too am assuming that the doors sit just outside the enclosure. So how far beyond the normal counter depth of 25 1/2" can I expect the fridge to protrude, not counting the handles? Smilingjudy, your fridge looks like it is just barely pulled out beyond the side panels. That would be great, as I really need to keep it as close to the counter depth as possible. And since this is a Jenn Air question can I hijack just a wee bit to ask you where do you have your plug placement planned? My electrician was in today and put the plug about 10" up from the floor, flush to the wall. I was wondering if there was a chance of the plug taking up valuable space and pushing the fridge unit out to the front even more.

Beautiful cabinets and what fun to discover the hidden spaces! The main panels on our refrigerator side panel don't open, but the one above does. We put a TV over our refrigerator (compromise to keep my husband happy and the TV out of my way). Our cabinets are dark so it blends in unless it's on. Anyway, that left us with the back half of the over-fridge space with only end access. We got some narrow sliding baskets stacked in a metal frame at Container Store. We use them for lightweight items -kind of our "junk drawers". ..... Picture hanging supplies, all the different types of tape, a screwdriver, etc. the baskets are mesh so even though they are overhead I can slide one out and look at most of the contents. we really use them a lot. If you really needed the space, you could get a full depth pullout unit , but that seems like overkill to me.

I faced the same dilemma about 6 weeks ago. We'd ordered KA's French door fridge and needed THREE door pulls for it! Yikes, I had no idea they were so expensive! Since I already have a bit of arthritis in my fingers, comfort was my Number #1 concern. I found a recommendation for Hardware Hut (www.hardwarehut.com) here on GW and was amazed at the selection. The prices were the best also. When I narrowed my search, I visited several cabinet showrooms to look and feel the pulls they offered. I ended up picking Top Knobs M-848 18" appliance pulls/handles in the pewter. I also have bin pulls on part of my cabs and wanted to stay away from the industrial look. I also steered away from the pulls that were too thin, had ridiculous uncomfortable additions to them or had ends sticking out that might snag on clothes. We've been using our kitchen now for the past two weeks and I am really happy with the appliance pulls we decided on. Regardless of what initially attracts you, my best advice is to try out as many pulls yourself as possible. I was amazed at how uncomfortable many pulls were. The cabinet front fridge doors are a bit heavy anyway . . . go for comfort as well as good looks.

One day many years ago, we went to a lady's home to pick out an anniversary cake for my in law's 50th wedding anniversary. She had her kitty litter pan on top of her refrigerator!!!!!! Now as to what is on top of my refrigerator is the same as what is on my tall freezer in my kitchen, empty large baskets and two baskets have great big stuffed chickens in them! Strange I know. Sue
