Please help with design of nook/niche area
Comments (8)Hi, the oak is regular cut, but they are real oak. I have looked into purchase of a buffet table but it does not fit the spot, the window is just overpowering. in length and height. I am going to use the 24" deep kitchen cabinet modified down to 16-18" deep, standing about 30-32" high (as opposed to kitchen 36") 3 simple cabinets will form a row of 6 bevelled doors will give me the wainscot effect which I like. I looked into the cost of wainscot kit that is oak veneer, it would cost the same as getting cabinets! and still I would have to stain the wainscot myself. My kitchen counters will be butcher block to give a warm look but this hutch area I am building will be disjointed being lower in height, I am considering a quartz with sparkle, but not too busy. Maybe a spot to put down the drinks and have a chat. I tried but could not incorporate book shelves on both sides, there is not enough space only 15-18" wide. So I will leave it or maybe install wall mounted shelves later. Any comments on the wall paper though I am requesting some samples soon.. Here is the design to give you an idea what I am talking about....See MorePlease review my cabinet design options and soffit or no soffit?
Comments (7)I prefer simpler, cleaner lines, so mostly like the 2nd styles in each drawing. I especially like the area next to the pantry to have more counter and not have the long doors down to the counter. Also, in the first picture, that area next to the oven and pantry looks like it's trying to be a furniture piece, but everything on that wall looks like separate things all shoved together. I'm not sure how to explain that better, and less offensively! I just think there is a lot going on and, like I said, all lined up, shoulder-to-shoulder, doesn't work for me. How do you do soffits with the cabinets changing height at the top? Or would you do away with that? If you drop the ceiling in the butler's pantry, might you want to do cabinets to 9 ft and have the ceiling where the cabinets end? Or do you want to store serveware or have lighting above?...See MoreKitchen Layout Help- 2 design options
Comments (22)I am going to go against the grain and say go for the corner pantry if you want (though if you have the space to add the longer pantry as rawket girl suggests, that would be even better). You are not going to be short on counter space with the size of that island. I have a corner pantry and it houses all the food, and weird pots/pans/serving dishes, and my folding footstool for reaching upper cabinets. I think it would be hard to get that level of storage in a pull out pantry. I will say NOT to get one of those melamine closet set-ups for your pantry. We replaced ours with commercial grade wire rack shelving which allows for dust and crumbs to fall to the floor for easy sweeping and eliminates deep, dark corners where you can't see anything. I am able to pinpoint where most of my ingredients are by looking under the shelf as well. I like option 1 best as well, because of the light as wsea mentions. But I would switch out the counter with the oven for a landing space....See MoreHelp with Kitchen Backsplash Design & Tile/Lighting Options
Comments (7)I like the look of taking the tile all the way to the ceiling. I like the idea of the scones, but not sure you will have room above the windows. Recessed cans in the ceiling may be the most functional. Looking at your plan, is that the only sink, or a prep sink? The cabinet is not going to allow for a standard size kitchen sink if it's the only one....See MoreMDLN
