Planting avocados in shade in Southern California

Alex Taf

Hello, I am wondering if it is a good idea to plant an avocado tree in the SHADE of two larger trees in Southern California.

I have two giant ash trees that keep my backyard in shade most of the time. The only time it hits full sun is a couple of hours in early morning during the summer and an hour or so in the afternoon.

I know this spot would be good for avocados when it is young. Protection from our destructive sun.

But once it starts bearing fruit - without full sun will it have any decent fruit?

Here's what the backyard looks like while it is getting morning sun.
