So sorry to hear about your family. I live in the Nashville area and was lucky enough to not have any damage. There is a Sears Outlet (aka "scratch and dent") on Thompson Lane near Nolensville Road. We purchased a freezer for the garage there, but sometimes they have things that have no damage, or the damage is a dent on a place where you can't see it. I would definitely look there. We used to have a Kenmore french door refrigerator that I loved (we sold it with our house when we sold) and am very happy with my Kenmore Elite DW. I hope you are able to get your family back in their home very soon!

I also think that oak will look wonderful surrounded by green, more subtle or more deep. Well, wood usually do:) Bluish gray too(Or grayish blue)). And I'm sure several other colors. But I think green is very very nice-it's not too cold a color, not too warm..it's somewhere in the middle there, and is very calming to the eye. But it's extremely personal of course-you need to like being surrounded by green; or any color for that matter. I wouldn't go for black countertop though-unless you really love black AND intend to change your white stove for black or stainless steel one.(talking about your inspirational pics now). Also not a fan of these mosaics-first, these kitchens have all different color scheme going on, including different color flooring; second, mosaics won't go with the warm and cozy cabin look..at least to me, there is something contradicting between rustic and warm-and busy glass mosaics; third, I'm not objective, I'm not a fan of this look and never was, so take my opinion here with a grain of salt:) BTW my current kitchen is light oak and dark granite:) but all the appliances are black(the fridge is stainless steel though), and floor is yellow-beige travertine. It all works together, and looks pretty cozy, but it's not the kitchen of my dreams. I inherited it, so it was fine. Maybe because of that I'm favoring your color scheme more)) It's more quiet, thus easier to work with. I think paint color and maybe glass inserts-on the wall to the right-will do wonders. You can find a backsplash first-and be inspired from it; or you can start with the general feel you're going for-and to arrive to backsplash in the end of your journey so to say:) I agree with practigal in almost everything but the ceiling color: I think the deeper color you take for the walls, the more you need to tint the ceiling that same color. My personal experience in a new home with (mostly) standard ceilings. You have a thin molding though, that might change things. I mean for choosing the paint:) Are you keeping it?

I am also shopping for appliances and after lots of research and opinions, have come to the conclusion that I have to think of appliances as something that WILL need repair. Period. Probably in the first few years. Once I shifted my thinking from "which brand is most reliable?" to "which brand is most easily fixed?", decision making got a lot more clear. I'm going GE fridge, BlueStar range, Bosch or Kitchenaid DW, Sharp drawer microwave, and am doing my best to avoid features I don't really need, like WiFi and Bluetooth and touch screens - just one more thing that can go wrong. . Haven't picked a hood yet. BlueStar is the only manufacturer in this list that has limited service options in my area, but they are so simple that any qualified repair person can resolve any problem. I'm pretty confident that with youtube I could fix most things on it myself. About Bosch dishwashers - you will hear they don't dry well. I have one in a vacation rental property I own. It's true that stuff can still be dripping wet at the end of the dry cycle BUT - it's only the plastic items. The chemical makeup of plastic is incompatible with the drying process of a Bosch. If you don't have kids' cups and plastic plates and plastic food storage items, the Bosch will dry just fine and the thing is INCREDIBLY quiet. You can be standing right in front of it when running and not hear it. And about side by side fridges - if you have never owned one it's important to realize that a side by side fridge can have the same cubic square feet of storage as a bottom freezer style fridge, but the side by side will not hold as much or as well. There's a lot of wasted space in side by sides because of the narrowness. For example, you can't fit a large pizza box or a party platter of food in a side by side, but you can in a bottom freezer style fridge, and if you bring home a lot of groceries at once it will be much harder to fit it all in a side by side. While I agree that the thought of having to root around to find things in a bottom drawer freezer is unappealing, I've decide to deal with it rather than buy another side by side because I use the fridge many many times more in a day than I ever will use the freezer, so I'd rather deal with the freezer inconvenience than the fridge inconvenience of a side by side.

I see several comments about getting new doors but I priced that out a few years ago and it wasn’t so budget friendly. If you really love the wood and all else is o.k. then I’d consider it. My kitchen is partially demolished (replaced tile floor with wood) but the gross old oak uppers with cathedral style arched doors are still there. Don’t paint because it will still look dated. I’ve had charcoal cabinets sitting boxed in my house and garage for a year now (COVID delay) with a shaker style door that has a single cove inside. The factory paint finishes are so much better than home paint jobs, don’t be afraid of them. Although my layout can’t change (too much structural work and the adjacent open laundry room is also getting redone along with the nearby powder room) I did myself a huge favor and now have all drawers below countertops! It will make my life so much easier. We ended up going with Thomasville cabinets that we purchased on sale at Home Depot. They are a quality product outside of the custom realm. I could easily spend 75K on the kitchen alone but it wouldn’t pay since we will probably move in the next 5 to 10 yrs. Again, don’t be afraid of painted cabinets and shop around. My sister did a budget friendly remodel using Cabinets To Go, her navy is gorgeous. Lighter counters and backsplash will do wonders too. Good luck!
