Absolutely! It's what you do with the remaining finishes that will ultimately create the balance between traditional and more modern that defines "transitional".

@Nichole Campos does it matter to you if the bottoms of the upper panels are finished or are raw unpainted plywood? I have been wondering about that question ever since I learned you can pay extra to have the vendor finish the bottoms. I am curious to hear what you think. This from a person who never even knew finished bottoms on upper cabinets was even possible until I read this post.

However, you'd need to compromise on the wood finish and get painted. Or you can get the finish you like of the rift-sawn white oak, but you'd need to compromise on the slim Shaker and get slab front instead (door style #125), since you don't want a traditional style.
