Questions on my African Violets
Comments (3)Aha - Winnatay - you started a new thread - and son-in-law did a good job! Miniature plant is finishing its bloom, the flowers are getting old and fade, you remove the bloomstalks when they are done. Only plastic flowers last forever... I think you have a good idea with a CFL above your plants. The best info for newbies - is on www.rachelsreflections.org Good Luck and Happy Growing Irina...See Morequestion on newly bought african violets
Comments (36)Great job! It is a beautiful shade of green that contrasts so well with the deep color of the flower. I wish I could post a photo of my Marie Lorraine plants for you, they are blooming their heads off. It is one of my favorites. It stays compact, but the blooms just get bigger and more of them with each bloom cycle. The color also gets richer and darker. The description says they are supposed to have fantasy markings, Mine don't, they have a wide glitter edge in a deeper shade of the same color, but no fantasy. I grow in natural light, so it probably does not bring out the fantasy the way fluorescent lights do. I am happy with them just as they are. It is also a strong plant, not fussy at all. The hybridizer is no longer with us, so treasure that plant! It is hard to get! I know how to post a photo to an email but I still have not figured out yet how to post to the forum. that will be my next project. Many folks have given instructions, so I will try to do that soon. The photos are saved on my phone. Joanne...See MoreMojave...

Comments (4)It's very cool. The seedlings may not be true to the mother because we don't know who the father is. Seeds take longer to come to the point of blooming plants than leaves. Based on the color of the blossoms, the new plants may be pink or purple or fantasy like the parents, they may have the wavy edged to the blossom. African violet folk have all the genetics of dominant and recessive genes down pat. You could get 50 seedlings, grow them all to bloom size and have a lot of different varieties of plants. So it is quite interesting because you don't know what you'll get....See MoreRosie1949
