That is what they cost me as well, but my insurance covered it. It ONLY covered the shots because I'd met the deductible.

It is expensive, but it is worth it.

I did not pay anything out of pocket for the Shingrex shots. At the time we had UPMC Ins.

I just had my first Shingrex shot last week. Same as you, only had a mildly sore arm to show for it. I was so worried going in as I've heard/read all the horror stories about how sick some people were. I had nada. Didn't even need Tylenol.

I called health insurance to confirm, but fortunately my policy covers all vaccines/immunizations at no cost to me.

However I also agree that $150 is small price to pay to avoid shingles. :-/ I realize that's easy for me to say when I'm not paying it - but trust me, you do not want shingles. Ask anyone who has ever had it, they'd pay a whole lot more than that to have avoided it. Horrible nasty virus.

Oh, yes, I totally agree that it's well worth the price to avoid shingles. I was just surprised since most of the other vaccines are free. And I realize now that it's because we are actually fortunate in that we haven't met our deductible yet on the prescription drug plan, as there have been years when we met those deductibles early in the year!

What you see on your bill reflects the total cost of getting the shot to you--everything from the cost of buying the vaccine, the cost of the materials needed to administer it, to keeping the power on in the medical office and paying the people who work there.

DH just had his first jab and it was 100% covered by insurance. We have a private, individual plan - no Medicare yet. I made a point of getting it scheduled prior to Medicare as I understand there can be some out of pocket with that depending on what Medicare options you choose.

We are still on DH’s COBRA insurance that has a huge deductible and an even bigger out of pocket limit and it still paid for our Shingrix vaccines at no cost to us. We both start Medicare on August 1st.

Actually it will be $300 when heather483 is done. Still worth it to not have shingles. My Blue Cross covered it completely.

Check with your insurance plan and make sure you are going to the right place. DH had to pay for his first one, but he went to an out of network pharmacy unknowingly. We fixed that for the 2nd shot and it was cheaper.

Ditto checking with insurance. i got my first one at my doctor's office and they charged me $98 after insurance. Got my second one at no cost at Costco after insurance. Also, maybe check GoodRx to see if you can it for a lower cost.

I got my first one last Thursday at Kaiser and it cost me $0. They scheduled my second one for October. I had a little arm soreness for a couple of days, no other side effects. I've heard that the second one can be worse.

Bunny, my reaction to the first one was worse and my DH had little reaction to either one. I think there are some folks who react to the first, some to the second and some hardly at all.

Ditto Bunny. Dh and I had very little reaction to the first one and a doozy of a few days after the second.

I had a sore arm after the first and nothing at all with the second. My husband had flu-like symptoms after the second.

DH and I were fine after both. So random as to who will get a reaction and when.
