Comments (5)I agree with DT - you have more flexibility for the future. I wasn't around when they installed the cans - they are 5 inch and limited options Fortunately DH loves the 3000K and we put in Coopers - which are terrific! One question - do you really want the cans over the floor or partially over the counter? Over the island - consider pendants... Too much of a good thing can cause problems......See MoreNeed help with recessed lights and kitchen remodel
Comments (2)Larger cans can be spaced farther, so there's less "swiss cheese" or "airport runway" look. Larger cans are also cheaper. I would suggest checking the price difference in your area since the 4" cans were twice as much as 6" cans in my local....wouldn't even want to see the price of a 3"! Either way you choose, make sure to put enough in. Having a bright well lit kitchen is wonderful!...See MoreNovice Remodeler - need help with big kitchen remodel!
Comments (31)Elizabeth, the floors have to go as they look better in photos. In person they scream cheap. It is cheap laminate. I will also have bare spots where the wall will be removed that I have to fix up. I was planning on putting some tile in the kitchen area but may just do hardwood throughout the whole house. I have also heard that the ikea cabinets hold up rather well but it seems that they use quite a bit of MDF with a foil over it. I personally would prefer a wood face as that sees quite a bit of abuse and potential liquid spills (I am just at the beginning with a 3 year old and 1.5 year old)....See MoreNeed help creating a list for kitchen remodel
Comments (4)Thanks, GreenDesigns, for your thoughtful comments. I know it's hard looking at my list without actually knowing what the condo looks like. All of the things on my list are actually very doable within the condo and have been done in other units, so I know that there are no real structural issues and that they are all possible. I just want to know what it will cost! I know that the floor isn't optional and I already have a firm estimate for a total condo reflooring so I'm just giving the kitchen person the option of bidding the entire job. The ceiling is dropped about 15 inches over the kitchen/dining area as an old design feature. It is vacant space with only an electrical wire to the light fixture so it can just be raised. The plumbing to be moved is to push it against the wall within my condo as it is currently running directly through the center of the cabinets (never seen anything like that, nothing is behind the wall) and then jogging over to connect at the main stack (which is actually against the wall!) Unless an induction stove takes much more power than an regular electric stove I should be good with that (that's one thing I haven't researched so thanks for the warning.) but other units have upgraded to induction without having to have a panel upgrade. Nothing I'm planning to do hasn't already been done in similar units but everyone does have a horror story about their contractor. I'm hoping to eliminate the horror stories by having a good understanding of the project upfront....See Moreejtidmore
