My indoor citrus trees keep dying
Comments (4)What soil? We've had multiple posters swear up and down they use "fast draining" soil but when they take the plant out if the pot they find a soaked and rotten mess. Is the soil completely dry down to the bottom when you water? Are you re-using the soil that the previous plant died in? Where are these plants coming from? If they are being grown outdoors and you move them indoors they will drop leaves unless you provide an adjustment period....See MoreThe Case of the New Citrus Owner & the Dying Kumquat Tree
Comments (18)I have been calling around/visiting several plant nurseries near where I live in search for pine bark fines for the 5-1-1 mix. So far, no luck. The nurseries all tell me that they have pine bark mulch and/or a potting bark mixture. Would an alternative for pine bark fines work with the 5-1-1 mix, and if so, what should I look for? From what I have read, I need to let the mix sit for roughly 2 weeks prior to planting my tree to let the lime do its thing. I have obviously been able to fine pine bark fines online around $10 per quart, but wanted to find something and make my mix right away before the season changes. Would this just be the better option? Also, how long should I keep my tree barerooted for?...See MorePlanting/potting a citrus tree
Comments (12)To be VERY frank, I repotted when I purchased the tree, and then I did another time because I wanted a nice-looking planter that worked with my living room decor for indoors/winter, and the one I chose was too small. Definitely a learning moment, and the planter I have chosen now is the correct size and will work indoor/outdoor. Truly, just a me issue, not a citrus issue. Thanks, all! I repotted today and I think it went well. And this will be its home for a good long while....See MoreIs My citrus tree dying?
Comments (8)The asymmetrical yellowing in pictures two and three look particularly similar to HLB (citrus greening), a fatal bacterial disease for citrus. I looked it up, and it's endemic in Puerto Rico. I don't mean to sound alarmist, but it's a real possibility. -Tom...See MoreHorrifying Citrus Monster (Zone 7b, NYC)
