Same species wood in 1 story house - different stains?

Hi -

We have original red oak wood flooring throughout our 1-story house (built in 1954). Last year we removed the carpets in the bedrooms and refinished the wood in the bedrooms and adjoining hallway with a warm brown stain.

This year our flooring guy had to fix the wood in a large section of the living room and will re-sand and re-stain the entire living room, dining room, kitchen, and laundry room to blend it all together. Now that I have seen the sanded red oak, I think a lighter color stain will make the common areas look bigger (or maybe it's the lack of furniture in the room at the moment?).

Would it be odd if the bedrooms have a darker stain than the common areas (living room, dining room, kitchen, laundry)? And if we do a different stain in the common areas, would I need to re-stain the hallway to the bedrooms with the lighter stain if the hallway is separated from the common areas with a sliding pocket door?

Thank you!
