I hate that center . It looks dead in the center , right ?! The lady who sold them , sold out and no one has sent her any pics , and she wasn’t able to keep one for herself to compare . Unfortunately, this cluster you see is actually the best it’s been !!

Ana you are right kristine... space is too limited and water too expensive to be wasting on this thing . I was hoping someone would have a good pic to help me keep it . But if no one chimes in with hope, it’s going in the green can tomorrow.

I agree that the center is ugly and the rose is not peach. To use an old rose forum cliche, it looks like used tissue, and in my garden would probably look even worse. Sorry Lilyfinch; that was harsh. I have a few I'd like to dispose of, but they don't look that bad. There I go again. Diane

It has perfection in it's name, so your expectation is high.

The only problem is that you can't really judge a rose very well in it's first year-or even it's second or third, IME. This is always my conundrum.

I realize my experiences aren't shared by everyone, but I've never had a rose that didn't show it's true looks to me the first season. Other problems like lack of good heat resistance and poor rebloom might become obvious a little later, but looks are pretty obvious the first year. Diane

Diane , and Bart , you are both right . I should be able to get at least a couple nice blooms to encourage me . But I don’t have 2-3 years to wait . I don’t mind waiting a couple years for the growth or rebloom to improve. But pretty blooms ? Such a shame bc it does bloom a lot . No fragrance that I can tell anyway.

Bart , I garden in Southern California so while I usually would be patient and plant and sit back to see what it does , I have to be cautious of water use as well as how much time I spend hand watering .

Prickly you are so right ! The name gave me high expectations and the blooms are a let down . It’s ok though. There are other great apricot roses !

Lilyfinch, I knew I was being plenty critical of this rose, and I'm sorry if I was a bit shocking. But I felt you were telling all of us you really didn't like it and wanted a push in the direction of removing it. So I really laid it on. I think you're making the right decision. For both of us, water is an expensive luxury that may be in limited supply in the next years. So I understand that wasting water is a big deal, especially on a plant you don't really like. What a shame, though, that this rose came to market when so many wonderful roses are impossible to acquire. I hope you replace this rose with a lovely new favorite. Diane

O, I definitely know what you mean about water!!! I have no running water out at my garden so I have to harvest what I can during the rainy season and bring in water during the summer, too. So no criticism was intended, believe me. Actually I consider myself to be rather spineless,lol,in the matter of not ditching roses that I don't really like immediately; I always think that the lack of beauty is somehow due to me : inadequate soil preparation,poor husbandry, lack of patience on my part, etc, but that is really sort of a narcissistic mentality,if you think about it. But in my specific situation , it really IS a "conundrum", because objectively speaking the soil there really IS awful (never been cultivated, rocky, hard as concrete,etc.) and it really DOES take many years to learn how to amend such soil correctly, and my husbandry really IS poor-I have way too many plants , the garden is way too big for one woman to care for by herself,I have so much non-gardening work to do, and watering is so difficult that I tend to be very chintzy about it. In other words, my own circumstances are very particular.

Still, I hope that my previous remark helped you to understand what you really want to do-that is, ditch this unsatisfactory rose. Often that happens to me-I start with a question on the forum,asking other people what they would do,and reading the different opinions of other people helps me to understand and clarify my own ideas. So, sure, I'm asking for advice, but not because I want others to tell me what to do. Hearing other people's thoughts, opinions, and experiences can be a precious aid ,a way to gather up data to help one make one's own decision.

If its any consolation, your photo shows better petaled blooms than the only photo of it on, "Help Me Find Roses."

The brown centers are disheartening, but stamens on most roses turn brown in time any way. If its a vigorous, good bloomer, and its color improves to being peach, it may be a keeper.

I would give it one more growing season, 2022, then decide what will be its fate.

Jen, your rose reminds me of my Blush Veranda. My Blush Veranda is in a pot and had similar look for a few years and it was on the give-away list but I didn't do it because I saw its beautiful pics on HMF and hoped that it would get better. This year, I give it extra water just to see how it would look and it amazed me. If you think you have extra water to give it to see if it will improve, then do it. Jennifer, your kids are beautiful. I love the zinnias-this reminds me of my first gardening experience, when I was a tiny, tiny kid. My granpa showed me how to plant zinnia seeds. They are a GREAT kid flower,since the seeds are nice and big, they grow fast,and they put on a wonderful multi-coloured, gaudy show with basically no real work. Just splendid.

Jen - I agree with tossing it since water is precious nowadays. Although, I was reading through my Straw/Teresa notes and I found that proliferation (which is what the above looks like to me) is caused by excessive nitrogen and/or cold weather. So maybe she would know how to fix this???

Carol, just a friendly disagreement here, but those centers don't look like proliferations. I'll see if I can dig up an old photo of one.

Helen, your Blush Veranda is one of the loveliest roses I've seen on the forum. I agree that roses love lots of water, and I think it's the best fertilizer of all. Do you grow Bliss? If so, how does it compare to Blush Veranda? Thanks. Diane
