It sounds like the door is an outside door? Can you take the door and frame off to give yourself a wider berth to get a sofa inside? My father once bought a used dryer but forgot to measure it, and it was just too big to get through the door (an outside door which goes right into the laundry room). His only option was to take the door and frame off, which we did. Brought the dryer in, then put the frame and door back on. Getting that dryer out when it croaks is going to require the same, or taking the dryer out in pieces! We put a note on the dryer for the person in the future who has to do so! I will tell you that I have never sat on one of those individual unit sofas that was not thoroughly uncomfortable so you might want to give that some serious thought. The pieces slide apart, then the cushions fall down between them; the edges of each piece create hard, raised bumps⦠You might want to jury rig it so they don't slide apart, then put some kind of board or something on it, under the cushions, to create a level, flat surface on which to put the cushions. Since this is nearly an 8ft long piece (about 5 inches from the ceiling) the biggest concern is not so much the width of the door but the surrounding space. It appears that the height of the sofa is within the width of the door (you have only 2 inches to spare), However, due to the length it may not fit thru the adjacent areas such as the hallway/foyer. FYI sofas are not shipped/delivered horizontally but actually vertically. So, by standing on end and lowering down into and thru the doorway, you'd probably just be sneaking by. Ask if the store you are purchasing from does "test fits". They'll charge a minimal fee to send a delivery person out to view your space before you purchase, which is far better than a sofa in your garage when it doesn't fit into your home.

If you want to provide other seating in your living room, you're going to need a different couch. Is there another room it could go in--for instance, if you have a kid's room, he or she would probably love to have it be their bed/reading nook/play area. Also, ask yourself where people congregate in your house when you're entertaining. If everybody always goes in the kitchen anyway, why spend a lot on living room seating? If you buy a smaller couch, then bring a couple of dining room chairs into the living room when people want to sit there. Not every occasion has to be filled with comfy, sink-into-it furniture, and dining chairs are really easy to move around. Don't have a dining room? Great. Buy a couple of dining chairs in good structural shape at the thrift store, paint the frames, re-cover the seats, and have them stay in the living room for extra chairs. They don't take up a lot of visual or physical space. You are at an exciting point, Judy! You now have the chance to exercise your creativity in a big way. The American Upholstery sofas sold by Room & Board have the back come off and it breaks into much smaller pieces. We got one up and down the stairs in a pretty narrow row house. I think ours is the Berin model. Not sure if it goes specifically down to 29", but i'm sure if you called Room and Board they could provide guidance. American Upholstery pull outs are also notoriously the most comfortable bed/sofa combos. It is used in our playroom/guestroom, and i also like it because i wash the cushion covers in the machine all the time (and line dry) and they come out perfect.
