The Toxic Neighbour Strikes Again!
Comments (31)Oh you all are wonderful over here!!! I have a toxic one that poisons everything and puts out birdseed with a mouse trap in the middle of it. Isn't he lovely? He used to shoot every bird he could until we called the police so much his wife was embarrassed about blue lights in their yard all the time and she made him quite. I dont think i can call the police about him putting out a mouse trap though. What kind of mind to sit around all day and think of new ways to hurt innocent creatures? Chickadeedeedee i soooo feel your pain. Maybe the next time she attacks your pond she will fall in and in her heaviness will get stuck bottoms up and you can plant lily pads as cover and no one will ever know what happened. LOL :-)-----------bonnie...See MoreInvitation to the greenhouse warming party!
Comments (8)Karyn...hi, we certainly hope this one doesn't get blown away this time..mind you the last one wasn't expected to either! No, there is no access to the g'h from the garage as this would take up valuable plant space I thought...plus I'd rather look at plants than a door...haha. Lauri, thanks for the email, will have a go at that coffee recipe, yummy! The greenhouse bascically faces south-east, I guess. It gets sun all day except for the last bit in the evening as the sun then disappears to the right of the fir tree you can see in our neighbours garden. The temps inside it have been hovering around 75-80F on sunny days, but we have chilly nights at present and I have some bedding plant seeds sown so the fan heater is on during the night to keep it above 40F. Today, I left the door shut while I went to work, the sun was particularly strong for the time of year and it topped out at 104F!! We have had to ensure plenty of ventilation so have spaces all along the roof line left open both at the front edge and back, but at the moment they are filled with foam rubber else the heat from the fan heater just escapes. Shade cloth is also a necessity even in our climate in the UK!. The garage wall seems to be acting like a giant storage heater as you can feel it's warmth even when the sun has gone. Will keep you posted on it's progress. Regards, Gill....See MoreBeing told what to bring to a party
Comments (28)Interesting thread! I don't mind being told what to bring but in my group of friends, it's pretty much understood that we'll bring something when invited. I'm also one who means it when I say Don't bring anything, so when someone tells me not to bring anything, I don't. But when someone tells me what to bring, I prefer it to be a category, such as appetizer or dessert. Then I can decide what I want to make. Unless they are specifically requesting a particular dish I've made before and want me to make again, which is fine too. But recently I was invited to a party and asked, what can I bring? and they told me a specific thing. Now the reason I didn't like that is because it was something that didn't require cooking, and I'm known in my circles as someone who cooks and I usually get compliments on whatever I make. This was a party where there would be several of my regular circle of friends in addition to a lot of people I don't know (or know very well). I did bring what they wanted, thinking that they probably had a set menu in mind, and this was the exact thing they needed to fill the bill. Well it turned out that it was a huge party, lots and lots o' food, no matter what I brought it would have been fine so the specific thing they requested was not specifically needed and I would have been happier bringing something I'd figured out on my own. No biggie really but I wondered if they weren't used to people asking WHAT to bring, and didn't really get that the best answer would have been a category instead of being so specific. I do believe most everyone just brought whatever they wanted because there was a pretty big overabundance of desserts, which, IME, is what you get when people decide what to bring without at least some guidance. Anyway, this party is an annual event, we went again this year and when I RSVP'd I just said, I'll bring an appetizer & wine, and left it at that. Easiest all around. It's a fun party and the savory food gets eaten as if locusts have descended and desserts are overflowing....See MoreDo you like your neighbours?
Comments (43)Neighbors on either side - great! However, the ones in back are a different story. One directly behind us butted his fence against ours (will probably be going to court as soon as survey is done. Think the stakes were moved) then dug a trench so the water from his yards flows into ours! Not. Our one and only encounter with them was when his wife had a hissy fit when we had the fence repainted and the painter had paint chips in her yard. She DEMANDED we call our contractor immediately and have him come and clean up his mess. I tried to inform her contractor was going to, but since they had just had their lawn resodded, he wanted to wait till it was dry so he didn't damage it. Never did get to let her know that. Other neighbors next to them believe that's it's perfectly o.k. to leave their terriers outside for extended periods of time and don't how much it might bother the neighbors. Apparently someone finally called the police as they no longer leave them outdoors all day long without food or shelter. Too bad some people just don't seem to grasp the concept of being a good neighbor....See Morenekotish
