Electrical Wiring Design Dilemma living room

Wiring for receiver

In my new construction, I need some design ideas for the A/V wiring in the living area.

My plan is to have a wall-mounted TV in the great room and some kind of TV stand below it (although I don't place on top it, just for hiding things, placing books, play station or something..).

I also have ceiling speakers pre-wired but I'm confused about where to connect to the receiver.

I have two options:

Since I plan to have some stand/cabinetry under the wall mount. I can place the receiver right below it. I can even have my PlayStation inside the cabinetry.
Route the speaker wiring to some closet or a location away from the TV. Have control from a central place. I still need to have the PlayStation in the cabinetry under the TV.

Any ideas on where to place the receiver? Any future-proofing ideas that I should consider?

At this point, I have only plan to have a speaker system and a gaming console. With most things are digital now, I don't plan to buy any blu-ray player. No idea what I'll hook with my TV in the future.

Where do the pre-wired speakers' wires run? You will have to run wires from there to your receiver.

@mtvhike That is the pending question. Where to run the wires to the receiver? I'm thinking whether to wire near to the TV or away from the TV in a closet.

If when closing the door it reverses to the open position and the main light flashes 10 times it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the small light on each sensor is on and not flickering ever so slightly. (check closely) Tweak them a little even though they may seem to be okay. Check for 5vdc between terminals 2 and 3 on the rear of the motor unit. If there is no voltage or if it is greater than 6vdc the logic board is bad.

I looked up the part number at Sears parts.com and your number 41A4373 changes to 41A4373A which usually indicates a minor engineering change. If this is not the number of your new sensors I doubt the new set would work.

There are several satellite TV forums where you can ask your question. I don't know about HD, but in a lot of cases Directv (and Dish) will use an antenna at their Local Receive Facility to pick up the stations. These LRF's are usually at one of the local TV stations. According to Direct'v web site, the one in San Francisco is located at 185 Berry Street. And then probably fiber optic from the Local Receive Facility to Directv's up link to the satellite, one of which is in Long Beach. The link given below is a good one to ask your question. If it has been less than 90 days I suggest you write down the model number and call 1-800-528-5880. That is the number for Chamberlain service and they should help you.

You said that you already have ceiling pre-wired speakers. Do they actually exist, or are they just in the building plans? Regardless, I would definitely not put the receiver in a closet, because you will need to have access to its controls. I would put my receiver on the TV stand under the TV. In my home theater room, there is a cabinet below the TV, which is about the same width. All my audio equipment is on that.

@mtvhike They are just in the building plans, don't exist yet. I'm supposed to tell the builder about where I should route the wires from the ceiling.

Sounds good. What you said makes sense.

I'm planning to put a cabinet under the TV for storage purposes anyways. So, I'll place the receiver in it. Thank you.

If you want to learn a lot about home theater, avsforum is the best resource I've found. Usually good equipment is placed in a location with proper venting.

I agree with kayozzy about avsforum - I'm a member and there is a lot of expertise there. It all depends on how deeply you want to get into this!
